Scientists have long wondered why some people have curly hair, while others do not, or why hair curls in some places on the body and straight in others. At the moment, there are two reasons that answer the question: why curly hair is the shape of the hair and the shape of the bulb.
Let's find out more about this …
As we know, even from the school course in biology, hair grows through the formation of new cells. The capillaries, which are located in the hair papilla, “fit” to the hair follicle from below. Cell division actually takes place above it. In straight hair, this process occurs evenly, as shown in the photo below.
In wavy hair, the division is uneven - the cells are formed from different sides in an unequal amount, therefore, in the section, wavy hair has an oval shape.
Curly curls tend to grow first in one direction, then in the other. This is due to the fact that the formation of cells occurs alternately on different sides of the hair. In the cut, the hair that curls is kidney-shaped.
Interestingly, the shape of the hair can be a sign of race. For example, the hair of the Indians is completely straight, since the shape of the hair is cylindrical, but the hair on the heads of people of the black race, on the contrary, curls strongly, because in cross section they have the shape of an ellipse.
Having examined the hair follicles (bulbs) in laboratory conditions, French scientists noticed that in people with curly hair, the follicles have a curved shape, while in people with straight hair, they are even. This stems from the bulb itself, which directs hair growth. The follicle of straight hair is perpendicular to the skin, wavy hair has a slight slope, but curly hair has a significant bend.

As the hair grows, it begins to follow the shape of its follicle. This is the answer to the question why hair curls.
This fact was determined by French scientists many years ago, while trying to create an effective remedy that can change the structure of the hair. Until now, experts are trying to deduce a shampoo formula that would easily make hair straight or, conversely, curly.
However, scientists are still racking their brains under the influence of which element the hair from birth in the human body takes a certain shape.
