Surgeons from the Medical College of Wisconsin (USA) performed a unique operation to restore the tissues of the human esophagus. For a successful outcome, the doctors and the patient had to wait four years.

American scientists performed a unique operation to artificially grow the esophagus in the human body. Previously, this technique was used only in animals.

Seven years ago, a patient was involved in a car accident, as a result of which the patient almost completely lost his esophagus. After extensive treatment, the 24-year-old agreed to an experimental organ growing technique.

So, with the help of metal stents and donor skin, doctors created a structure of the esophagus inside the body, while treating it with a special gel from the patient's blood to attract stem cells. Usually in such operations, the tissue of the gastrointestinal tract is used, but in this case the patient's organs were severely damaged and could not be used. It was expected that the metal stents would be removed three months after the operation, but as a result of complications, the patient and the doctors had to wait four years, after which it took another year to fully recover the organ. Today, the patient can eat independently without the help of special equipment.

Previously, doctors did not make public the fact of such an operation, because they were not sure of the final success.
