Doctors at the Shumakov Transplant Center have awarded the Prize for the first Russian lung transplant to a child from an adult donor, RIA Novosti reports.

“See how many people stood up. The result of this interaction is what all transplantation stands on … It is not for nothing that many transplant communities have a symbol - a piece of a puzzle that must come together to get a result. We are now demonstrating these puzzle pieces,”said Sergei Gautier, head of the Shumakov Center, Russia's chief transplantologist.

In October 2016, the head of the Ministry of Health Veronika Skvortsova said that the first lung transplant operation on a 13-year-old girl with cystic fibrosis was successfully completed in the Russian Federation. The operation took place at the Federal Scientific Center for Transplantology and Artificial Organs named after Academician V. I. Shumakov of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.

The award for the operation that saved a person's life was received by a group of surgeons from Nizhny Novgorod, who removed a blood clot from a pulmonary artery in a pregnant woman. Also in this city, a biochip was created for the diagnosis of 15 types of cancer, the developers received an award for new diagnostic methods. Physicists Vladimir Khoroshkov and Gennady Klenov were awarded prizes for the development of medicine by representatives of non-medical professions. The award was presented to a group of military doctors led by Major of the Medical Service Ruslan Guzeev, who performed their professional duty in Syria.

The National Prize "Vocation" was established in 2001 by Channel One and the RF Ministry of Health. The idea of the award belongs to the host of the Health program, Elena Malysheva, and was co-organized by a former ambulance doctor, People's Artist of Russia Alexander Rosenbaum. The solemn ceremony is held annually on the eve of the Day of the Medical Worker, which will be held on June 18 in 2017.
