Devil's Island

Many will be surprised by the fact that there is a lost island between the Monastyrsky Island and the New Bridge. Haven't seen him? This is not surprising. After all, the island was flooded during the construction of the Dnieper hydroelectric power station, however, to this day, it does not leave attempts to "climb" up.

On days when the water level becomes lower than usual, strong ripples can be seen at the location of the island. Rumor has it that before the sinking, many drowned people were found near its shores, and fishermen with boats disappeared without a trace.

In fact, the name of the island is not at all scary - Popova Spit. It was later that they began to call it Hell Island and Devil's Island because of its bad fame. In any case, while walking along the embankment in the evenings, take a closer look, perhaps at this very moment the mysterious drowned earth will try to rise above the water.

Monastyrsky Island

In the 90s, when archaeologists carried out excavations on the island, they found something interesting. According to the official version, there was nothing unusual there, but according to the unofficial one, the workers found voids underground and a small cave in which the remains of an ancient temple were located. According to psychics, there is even some kind of magic crystal inside the island, and time changes its course under the Shevchenko monument.

The worst thing in this legend is that one of the nights psychics decided to conduct a ritual in order to get in touch with otherworldly forces. After that, they disappeared without a trace. At the same time, archaeologists had to curtail all work.

Ghosts of an abandoned hospital

In an abandoned hospital on Korolenko, ghosts walk and ghosts fly. Is it true? There is no exact data. The fact is that many patients died in the hospital building for unknown reasons (or they were killed), and the dead were buried in the basement. There was also a department for terminally ill patients. It turns out that the hospital is filled with suffering and pain of those times, and the very peak of paranormal energy is in the basement.

In 2018, fortunately, the city council allowed the building to be demolished. A high-rise building should be built there instead of the former hospital …

Park with the dead

The Park of Remembrance and Reconciliation (formerly Kalinin) is often called the park of the living and the dead. And this is not surprising, because in ancient times there was a city cemetery in its place. The townspeople buried the dead there, and during the war, the Germans used this place to bury the dead German soldiers.

The very peak of history is that later they decided to build a park on this place, but the remains of the dead were not transferred. It turns out that those who walk in the park walk through the old cemetery.

House of the sorcerer and his young wife

There is a strange house on Orlovskaya 6: the windows are blocked, the walls are shabby, and no one lives on the second floor. But is there really nobody on the second floor?

According to legend, there used to be a sorcerer who took a minor girl as his wife. The warlock has killed many souls. One day, the girl ran away from the sorcerer to the young guy, and set the house on fire. Then there was a sorcerer inside, who was burned to death. Researchers have repeatedly left a video camera in abandoned places overnight, but they have never been able to fix the ghost: interference always appears on the recording, or the image simply disappeared.

Devil's treasure

The most terrible story was left at last, and we found it on one of the portals of the Dnieper. This legend may not be a legend at all, but everyone will decide for himself.

The house on Dzerzhinsky, 13 was built in the 1890s, the owner was the banker Alexander Ivanovsky. While digging a pit, the builders found an old chest and handed the find to the banker. He, opening the box, saw gold coins there, with which the chest was filled to the brim.

However, a strange detail: on one side of the coins a winged seraphim was minted, and on the other - a devil.

The banker decided to sell the find and took it to a familiar antique dealer, but the latter refused to buy, they say, cursed coins.

“The underground treasures, which, according to legends, are guarded by demons, have never brought happiness to anyone. And from this treasure it simply brings misfortune, and not only personal one,”the antique dealer said then.

The banker, given his pragmatism, disobeyed the advice and asked for help to sell the treasure in parts. Then the most interesting thing began: when half of the chest was sold, the banker cheated on his wife and she laid hands on herself. Things started to go down, so Ivanovsky decided to sell the rest. Then things got even worse, since immediately after the sale of the coins, the First World War broke out, in which the banker's eldest son soon died. And the revolution that followed, deprived the banker of both his fortune and his homeland. On the eve of his death in exile, in an almshouse for the mentally ill, he bequeathed to his remaining descendants, in order to save the family, to find and return the cursed coins to their place. Fortunately, a list of all buyers of the sinister treasure has been preserved.

It took half a century to find the owners, during which Ivanovsky's descendants died in accidents, they were killed, they laid hands on themselves, and so on. When the last coin was returned to the chest, World War II ended.
