Researchers have found signs of ancient civilizations in the area where Hyperborea was supposedly located.
The mysterious Hyperborea is either a country or a people who lived all over the Earth. There are unprecedented numbers of conversations, theories, and rumors around this disappeared civilization. There is a place for dry facts, fantastic speculations, and frightening mysticism. "Evening Moscow" asked the experts, what was Hyperborea.
Hyperborea is a country
Literally "Hyperborea" is translated as "beyond Boreus", that is, "beyond the north wind." This is a mysterious country, the mention of which was known for many years before our era. According to legend, this is a real paradise: people lived for a thousand years, they were rich and free, there were only gods above them and there were no earthly rulers. And death there supposedly came from satiety with all the benefits of civilization. Moreover, a number of scholars attribute this description to the ancient Greek historian Herodotus.
“There is an authoritative opinion of the French philosopher Rene Guénon, who believed that Hyperborea was the primary focus of civilization,” says the historian, researcher of ancient civilizations and mysteries Aleksey Komogortsev. - The secondary center was already Atlantis. In addition to Guenon, who was a great connoisseur of historical doctrines, there is information from ancient Greek sources that talk about Hyperborea as "the land of the blessed", as it was called there. They also associated the god Apollo with this country.

Scythian mythology is also associated with the origin of Hyperborea. Allegedly, this country was localized behind the so-called Riphean Mountains in the Far North. According to myths, these were the hills from where the main rivers of Scythia originated. Presumably, we now know them as the Ural Mountains.

According to the mythological plot, the tribes of the goddess Danu, the fourth of the mythical tribes that ruled Ireland, studied the magic art there, after which they returned and divided the country into two parts - ground and underground.

Flemish cartographer and geographer Gerardus Mercator published a map of the world in 1569. His work today is renowned for its phenomenal precision. On closer examination of the map, one can see the contours of the territories close to modern ones. Assuming that Meractor's work was correct, Hyperborea was, as it were, surrounded by the coasts of Eastern Siberia, Alaska and Canada, the northern coasts of Europe and ice-free Greenland, Franz Josef Land, Novaya Zemlya, Iceland and the island of Spitsbergen. This location, according to a number of researchers, indicates that it was there about 10-30 million years ago. But whether this is really so, no one can say. Now, according to some experts, Hyperborea is buried under a layer of water and ice.

Hyperborea is not a country
However, other researchers believe that Hyperborea was not a state at all.
“It was located throughout the entire territory of the Earth,” says Vladimir Shemshuk, a writer and researcher of ancient cults. - It was one people, with a single culture, language.
Aleksandr Solyony, a ufologist and member of the Cosmopoisk association, agrees with the same point of view. However, he has a different version of the origin of the myth.
“This is a fictional country with no borders,” he is sure. “They just used to say“beyond Borey”, that is, beyond the“north wind”, and somewhere there people live. And the country as such simply does not exist.
Research
Hyperborea was also studied in the 20th century. In 1922, to study the issue, a group of researchers was assembled under the leadership of the writer and occultist Alexander Barchenko. They went on an expedition to the Seydozero and Lovozero regions of the Murmansk region. What specific goals the campaign pursued, which was personally supported by Felix Dzerzhinsky, is difficult to establish.
- Barchenko was also engaged in the riddles of ancient civilizations, - says Aleksey Komogortsev. - But first of all then they were looking not so much for traces of Hyperborea, but psychic phenomena were studied. Indeed, there are rumors that the expedition discovered something beyond this. But what exactly is unknown to us, because there are simply no documents about it. And if there is, then they are classified.
Other researchers also say that they are trying to hide information about Hyperborea in modern times. In particular, there are rumors about a certain German expedition to the North Pole: at first they were classified, and then completely disappeared.
“You can take the last expedition of the Soviet philosopher Valery Demin, who was the successor of Barchenko's ideas,” says Vladimir Shemshuk. - He found signs of ancient civilizations. These were both pyramids and cyclopean structures.
Mountains of Russian Lapland in the Arctic. In the remote Lovozero tundra, cyclopean ruins and walls, giant slabs of the correct geometric shape with cuts of technogenic origin, drilled blocks, a ritual well, mysterious signs and letters were found.
Demin was one of the main followers of the theory of a highly developed ancient civilization in the Russian North. He devoted dozens of scientific works to Hyperborea. He found it strange that after studying the materials of Alexander Barchenko's expedition to the Lubyanka several years later he was repressed and shot. Demin, who died in 2006, said that in 1999, together with his expedition, he discovered a certain hole that goes underground. But no one dared to go there - fear led to numbness. According to Demin's stories, the local old-timer Fyodor Ignatiev, who brought food to Barchenko's expedition, said that those who decided to take a step into the dungeon “fell, unable to move,” and next to the rocks they found drawings of some deities and animals.
Theories about Hyperborea are based on other findings. Strange stones were found, in particular, on the Kola Peninsula. But whether they really belong to the mysterious "paradise" state, we may never know.
