Pyramid Shimizu 2004 (eng. Shimizu TRY 2004 Pyramid) - a project to build a huge pyramidal structure, running along Tokyo Bay in Japan.

It is estimated that the structure will be 12 times taller than the Great Pyramid of Giza and will house 750,000 people. It will be the most ambitious man-made structure in the history of mankind. The 2004-meter-high structure will help offset the lack of space in Tokyo, although it will only accommodate a fraction of Tokyo's population.

The proposed structure is so grand that it cannot be erected at the present time with all available materials due to their heaviness. The design was considered based on the perceived availability of ultra-strong and lightweight structures based on carbon nanotubes.

Construction start date has yet to be determined. Earlier it was reported that construction is planned to begin in 2030 and be completed by 2110. But the question remains open for now.

Design features

External boundaries, individual areas and the infrastructure of the structure have been determined tentatively. Total building area by security levels:

  • level 1-4: residential and office space;
  • level 5-8: research laboratories, recreational facilities, etc.

The height of each level will be 250.5 meters (for 8 levels of the pyramid with a height of 2004 meters).

The structure of the structure is 204 small pyramids, stacked in eight floors.

Each of these small pyramids is the size of the Luxor Hotel (hotel and casino) located in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Distribution into zones, advantages and disadvantages of the design

The building is divided into residential, entertainment and commercial areas. 50 sq. km will be set aside for approximately 240,000 residential blocks accommodating 750,000 people. Autonomous energy resources (from wind and sunlight) are planned in each block. Approximately 24 sq. km are allocated to office and commercial premises for 800,000 people. The remaining 14 sq. km will be used for entertainment and research work.

The main and indisputable advantage of such a city is its high mobility and protection from external climatic factors (for example, a tsunami). The main disadvantage is the instability of the structure: if only one floor is destroyed, the entire structure, including 750,000 people, will collapse into the sea.
