Imagine a city where everyone is equal. It seems like something unreal, a utopia that has no place in our world …

However, in the south of India there is the city of Auroville, which, according to its founders, should become an international society beyond politics and religion.

The city, developing under the auspices of UNESCO, was founded in 1968. Hundreds of representatives from different countries came to Auroville, seizing a handful of their native land, which was soon buried in the Matrimandir (Mother's temple). This temple is now considered a gathering center for residents and symbolizes a way of life that aims to free people from their constraints: political, financial and social.

Initially, there was an ashram, which was ruled by Indian Sri Aurobindo and Frenchwoman Mirra Alfassa, now it has turned into a city where all residents are engaged in intensive spiritual practices. Here everyone is busy with their own business. The city tries to support itself: there are fields, factories, bakeries, a solar-powered canteen, schools, cinemas, a music school and even a local newspaper.

Now the city is home to 2,333 residents from 45 countries of the world, but it is planned that the number of residents will increase to 50 thousand people.

“There must be a place somewhere on earth that no nation could claim. Where all people with sincere aspiration could live freely as citizens of the world, following only one direction: the leadership of the Supreme Truth."

Most of the residents of Auroville come from India, but there are residents of France, Germany, Israel, America, Russia and many other countries. They live in houses arranged in a spiral that unfolds from Matrimandir.

One gets the impression that Auroville is heaven on earth. I don’t know about you, but I personally wish, if not to live there, then at least visit this wonderful city!
