Physicists Sergei Odintsov (Russia) and Vasilis Oykonomu (Greece) modeled the possible death of the universe. The corresponding study was published in the journal Physical Review D, according to a press release from Kazan Federal University.
Scientists have shown that the singularity of a dynamical system is not always identical with a physical one. “We found out that the singularity may not occur, and then the Universe is able to evolve for an infinitely long time. But for this, it must be described by an alternative gravity, including terms that are quadratic in scalar curvature, Odintsov noted.
Physicists also managed to prove that the singularities of the Big Rip, one of the scenarios for the development of the world, are always associated with the acceleration of the Universe.
Physicists considered the future singularity of the Universe in the approach of a modified theory of gravity using the dynamical system method. This model corresponds to the inflationary scenario of RAS Academician Alexei Starobinsky.
Singularity is understood as the state of the Universe when all the parameters describing it, in particular, curvature, gravitational field strength and energy, are equal to infinity. Calculations show that the death of the observed world can occur in 30-40 billion years.
