On June 28, 2019, mountaineer Brian Mestre discovered a lake of melted snow in the Mont Blanc massif. The lake formed at the foot of the Dent du Géant mountain at an altitude of about 3,400 meters (11,100 feet).

“Needless to say, this lake was a real surprise. It is located in the region of 3400–3500 meters. At this altitude, you can only find snow and ice, not water. Most of the time, when we stay at that altitude during the day, the water in our bottles starts to freeze.”

The peak Dent du Géant, at the base of which the lake lies, is highlighted in red. More precisely, it is located in the area of the second peak - Aiguilles Marbrées, which is at a distance of 1.5 from the tunnel route. That is, the lake is located either directly above the tunnel, or above some underground structure in its infrastructure.
Hence, one can think that it emits heat or some kind of power plant, or some other mechanisms, the radiation from which heats the mountain.
