Stephen Hawking believes that humanity should be careful when responding to alien signals, since an advanced civilization could colonize our planet, MailOnline reports. The British physicist stated this in a short documentary about the exoplanet Gliese 832 c, which may be similar to Earth.
The film was presented on the CuriosityStream service, the content of which consists of videos about science, technology, history and nature. In it Hawking “travels” through space, talking about various objects, including the black hole Sagittarius A *. The physicist also "visits" Gliese 832 c - an exoplanet 16 light years distant from the Sun. This world may be the second Earth inhabited by an alien civilization, since its distance from the parent star suggests the presence of liquid water on the surface.
According to Hawking, one day humanity may receive a signal from intelligent beings inhabiting a planet like Gliese 832 c, but there is no need to rush to respond to them, since "brothers in mind" may have bad intentions.
