In the near future, Russian banks will introduce retinal customer identification technology. VTB Group intends to apply this method as early as 2018, and B&N Bank plans to use it in the next few years. Tinkoff-Bank is also considering a new verification option.
According to VTB Group representatives, retinal scanning will take place in bank branches, ATMs, self-service devices and mobile device models.
As reported in Binbank, the new identification method is an additional protection when making large payments and the client's access to the safe deposit box.
In turn, the press service of Tinkoff Bank stressed that recognition by the retina of the eye is a reliable and accurate method, but this innovation will be quite difficult to implement.
It should be noted that in the world practice, retinal client authentication is recognized as one of the most reliable.
For absolute accuracy, they resort to multifactor verification, which includes one or more biometric indicators, as well as data that is known only to the client (for example, a code word).
