Yaritza Oliva, 20, from Purranque, Chile, surprised doctors. At the beginning of the month, she asked for help from doctors due to the fact that several times a day she was bleeding from her eyes.
Bleeding is accompanied by acute pain. Medical analysis did not reveal any infection. Therefore, the woman was prescribed eye drops and sent home. However, the condition did not improve, and the relatives had to ask for help from their neighbors. It was required to collect a certain amount for a qualified doctor.
On local television, her father made an appeal to raise money for the woman. A number of experts have already expressed their opinion: perhaps the victim has a rare disorder - hemolacria. It is dangerous, primarily because it may indicate hidden problems. For example, the release of blood together with tears is observed with tumors of the lacrimal glands, injuries, infections, increased hormonal levels.
Although there are histories of patients with similar symptoms, doctors have little to say about hemolacria. For example, this disorder was diagnosed in 2009 in a teenager (he cried bloody tears three times a day).
Tennessee-based Calvino Inman, 15, stresses that there were no signs of impending problems. Sometimes he doesn't feel at all that he is bleeding. Sometimes the bleeding is accompanied by severe burning. Until now, doctors have not been able to help him. The search for a cure continues.
