In order to prevent and reduce work-related injuries, the Japanese company Innophys has released a compact exoskeleton with a carrying capacity of up to 30 kilograms. The robotic suit was first shown at the International Robot Exhibition in Tokyo.

The suit is specially designed for people working in agriculture, industry and services such as, for example, elderly care. The device is reported to be particularly useful wherever heavy manual handling is required.

The Japanese healthcare system is one of the most advanced in the world. Elderly people in the country receive a lot of attention and physical assistance. The medical staff regularly accompanies the elderly, helping them to move around safely and comfortably use household items.

With many elderly people living in Japan (13 percent of the population is 75 years old and above), the need for physically fit and healthy health workers is much higher than in other developed countries of the world. The Robo Suit is designed to help meet this need.

As reported by the International Business Times, the Innophys system consists of hydraulic artificial muscles encased in an aluminum backpack-like body. The suit is attached to the body and follows its movements.

The company currently offers two versions of the device. The first weighs 5.5 kilograms and can lift up to 30 kg. The lightweight 4.2 kg version is designed for loads up to 22 kg. The cost of the suit is $ 4,970. It can be rented if desired.
