Around 50,000 people across Anne Arundel County were left without electricity Thursday evening after unexplained blue and green lights that filled the horizon around 9 p.m.
Ann Arundel County is located in Maryland, outside the Washington County border, and in the suburbs of Baltimore. Strange lights have been observed in other communities, including Severn, Odenton, Crofton and Bowie. Residents of these places have posted videos of strange lights on Twitter.
But a spokesperson for the electricity supplier said it was likely the lights from the transformer that the wind carried over. “It is too early to talk about the causes of equipment failure,” said Rachael Lighty, spokeswoman for Baltimore Gas and Electric's (BGE).
“Occasionally, customers may see flashes or hear a loud bang when the fuse switches.” “I've never seen anything like this, and a complete blackout,” said Annapolis Mayor Josh Cohen.
In the video, residents react, shocked by the blue and green lights that fill the sky for about 30 seconds. Following this incident, rumors spread that a robbery had taken place in the Annapolis area. But the Annapolis Police Department said there were no incidents. However, the department dispatched seven more officers to the Annapolis area to monitor the situation and related incidents.
