The anomaly became known only after his birth

A child with four legs was born in a hospital in western Mozambique. Now doctors are determining whether a newborn can be operated on to remove "extra" legs without undue danger to his health. As noted, this is the second case of the birth of a baby with such a deviation in the province for a month.

A child with four legs was born in the province of Manika. The media do not have information about whether it is a boy or a girl. It is reported that the woman's pregnancy proceeded without complications and the experts did not suspect about the deviation with which the child was subsequently born. As the most likely explanation for the cause of the anomaly, doctors put forward a version that originally the legs belonged to an underdeveloped twin brother, conceived with a child.

It is worth noting that a child with three legs was born in the same province less than a month ago. In all likelihood, the prevalence of such episodes is due to the fact that many hospitals in Mozambique do not have the equipment necessary in order to find out about the anomaly in advance.

About six months ago, it became known about another, somewhat similar case - a child was born in China with 31 fingers - 15 fingers, 16 toes and two palms on each hand. However, in some respects this story was different from the birth of a child with three or four legs. One of the main differences can be said that the deviation was almost certainly caused by genetic factors, and not by any abnormalities in the developmental stage of the embryo. The 31-toed baby's mother herself suffered from a genetic disorder called polydactyly - she had one extra toe on each hand and foot. The parents suspected that the child could inherit this deviation, but in three large clinics they were assured that there were no abnormalities in the embryo. It is believed that polydactyly does not pose a danger to human life.
