On the eve, residents of the Chirag village of the Agul region found holy scriptures in the wall of an ancient destroyed mosque.

According to one of the villagers, books and manuscripts in Arabic were found walled up in one of the walls during the reconstruction of the mosque.

“The mosque is very old, it is not functioning at the moment, as it has been destroyed. Presumably this is one of the first mosques in the area. In communist times, it was closed and turned into a warehouse. Today, the villagers intend to restore the ancient mosque, for this, work is being carried out, during which the find was discovered,”said an eyewitness to the events.

“There were five books that we found yesterday (May 1) in the evening, we pulled them out of the wall and packed them. Now they are in the village, we did not even open them, because they are in a very dilapidated state, time has influenced them. In my opinion, there are three Korans, and the rest are leaflets with notes and unknown books in Arabic. It must be cleaned, looked at, studied. Now I cannot say for sure which books were found,”he explained.

As our interlocutor said, last year old manuscripts were also found in the village, which were transferred to Derbent for restoration. The villagers plan to place them in the library at the mosque after it is restored.
