Beginning in 1983, articles about the observed anomalous phenomena began to appear more and more in the periodicals, each such article is commented on by scientists of the USSR Academy of Sciences. Here are some typical examples.
Gorky airport
A. Shukshin, air dispatcher, Gorky airport, March 27, 1983, 5:50 pm Moscow time: “The usual surveillance radars of the Gorky airport found an object that they could not identify. That is, the flying object did not answer the question "friend or foe". He walked about 70 kilometers southeast of Gorky. Then he turned a little to the east and flew not through the airport itself, but about 7-10 kilometers from it. The object's flight altitude did not exceed one kilometer, the speed was approximately 180-200 kilometers per hour. The object was the size of the fuselage of an IL-14 aircraft, but without any sign of wings or tail. A light gray "cigar" slowly sailed in the sky … The phenomenon lasted 40 minutes. At a distance of 30-40 kilometers to the north-east of the airport, the radar stations lost sight of it."
The sky of Ukraine, Belarus and Central Russia
On December 2, 1983, in the skies of Ukraine, Belarus and Central Russia, thousands of people observed luminous objects in the form of balls with trails. Some objects were split into several parts. The brightest of them was brighter than Venus in its brightest phase. The angular velocity of the group of objects was approximately 0.8 degrees per second. The sight was impressive. Some observers felt uplifted, as if they were present at a festive fireworks, others - fear, others - just surprise.

N. Erpylev, coordinator of optical observations of artificial earth satellites in the Astro Council of the USSR Academy of Sciences, said: “The same phenomena, as reported by eyewitnesses, were recorded at many observation stations of artificial earth satellites. In particular, at the stations of Uzhgorod, Kiev University."
Deputy Chairman of the Commission on Anomalous Phenomena, Pilot-Cosmonaut of the USSR P. Popovich expressed the opinion: "The events in December 1983 in the sky of Ukraine can be explained as a result of the combustion of one of the artificial satellites in orbit in the atmosphere." However, the AL Commission receives messages (about 2-3%), where details are mentioned that do not fit into this version. These facts are carefully studied and taken into account.
Sometimes it happens that there is enough data on the observed objects, they are established reliably, therefore, the phenomenon objectively existed, and no one can explain it within the framework of modern science. It is these events that are called non-identified. As, for example, the observation of the object on March 27, 1983 in the area of the Gorky airport. In addition, there are objects that the radar "does not take". Therefore, it is necessary, in addition to describing their observations, to inform eyewitnesses about the date, time and place of observation of objects, their position in the sky, angular velocity, duration of observation, etc. *. Here's another case from the UFO Chronicle.
During the flight of the Yak-40 aircraft in January 1978, in the section between the settlements of Medvezhye and Nadym, the crew noticed some kind of round, very shiny foreign body, which was rapidly approaching and after a while was right on the course. Every minute the size of this body increased, and when a collision seemed inevitable, the object soared up in front of the very nose of the plane, without causing him any harm.
The Secret of Kugintang
On October 12, 1984, the newspaper "Trud" published an article "The Secret of Kugintang" by special correspondents N. Dombrovsky and O. Kvyatkovsky, in which the following was noted: "During the work of a complex expedition organized by the Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, the Academy of Sciences of the Turkmen SSR and the tourist club Krasnoyarsk production association "Krastyazhmash", on the territory of Turkmenistan in the spurs of the Kugintangtau ridge, a deep cave was discovered, filled with mummies of people, animals, and the remains of utensils.
On the fourth day of training before descending into the cave, when we had already clarified the reliability of the belay, the communication modes, Kugintang presented us with another surprise. "Look!" - the scouts jumped to their feet. In the northeast, above a ridge of distant mountains, a brightly glowing pearl ball, 3-4 suns in size, appeared. Continuously increasing in size, he moved in our direction.
Ten minutes later, the radiance covered half of the cloudless sky, something huge and luminous hovered right above us. We clicked the shutters of cameras, tried to guess what we were seeing. After 15 minutes the glow began to fade and soon went out. In the black velvet sky, only myriads of diamond star pins still shone."
Exactly at 4.10 …
The phenomenon described in the article "Exactly at 4.10 …" was comprehensively studied by members of the Leningrad Commission on Anomalous Phenomena under the leadership of Corresponding Member of the USSR Academy of Medical Sciences V. Troitsky. The study showed that this phenomenon was a scientific and technical experiment to study the atmosphere by spraying special reagents in it, and this experiment had nothing to do with UFOs (?!). It is not clear why conduct research if, by requesting the appropriate service, they would instantly receive an answer?
The same Troitsky earlier, in 1984, in his interview to the correspondents of the newspapers "Nedelya" and "Socialist Industry" said: “There are many examples of observations of anomalous phenomena in the atmosphere, interpreted as UFOs. You can refer to the case described by Pravda, Krasnaya Zvezda, and Technology for Youth.
A flaming ball with a diameter of several meters
On October 16, 1981, fighter pilot Korotkov made another training flight. After completing the assigned program, Korotkov turned to the airfield and began to land. Having lowered the plane to an altitude of 1800 meters, the pilot decided to descend further at a speed of 15 meters per second. At that time, the car reduced its speed to 520 kilometers per hour, and then at an altitude of 1300 meters, watching the course of the descent, the pilot suddenly saw something incomprehensible. A bright flaming ball several meters in diameter flew in front of the fighter!
This incredible vision lasted a little over a second, but Korotkov noticed that in the center of the ball there was a darkish ring 15 centimeters wide. As soon as the ball disappeared, a dull distant bang was heard, the noise of the engine cut off, and a smell of smoke smelled in the cockpit. Glancing at the instruments, the pilot saw that the engines had stopped, but there was no fire in the plane.
After the report to the flight director, Korotkov moved the engine start lever to the “stop” position, then to the “start” position, and the RPM arrow moved with a slight delay, the engines started up again. For some unknown reason, during the landing approach, the radio compass and range counter failed.
Probably, the counter ball of "unknown nature" increased the electrical conductivity of the surrounding air, turned off the radio equipment, caused a disruption in fuel combustion, the engine turned off, and a powerful electric discharge from the vertical tail was formed.
It is possible that there was a luminous plasma around the ball. The ionization of the air caused an active reaction of the combination of oxygen with nitrogen in the plasma layer bordering the air, as well as the accumulation of an electric charge on the plane, mainly of the same sign, due to the different mobility of electrons and ions.
After landing, the plane was examined, and the record was made in the aircraft report: "Destruction of the load-bearing elements of the fairing skin in the rear upper part of the tail fin." This means that the meeting of the fighter with the mysterious object did not pass without a trace for him! It is difficult to explain what it was - fireball or UFO. But there is no such diameter of ball lightning. Besides, the meeting was too fleeting. And how can you explain that the ball at a speed of 520 kilometers per hour retained its round shape?
