American scientists announced the creation of a universal cure for cancer. Oncologists have noticed that the drug palbociclib, which is prescribed for patients with breast cancer, has been successful in treating other types of cancer. They presented their findings on the pages of JAMA Oncology.
According to doctors, this drug has been shown to be effective in cases of sarcoma, teratoma and lymphoma. Palbociclib affects the cell division mechanisms by inhibiting the vital activity of the CDK4 and 6 enzymes, which provoke cell reproduction.
According to oncologists at the University of Pennsylvania in the USA, the combination of this drug with other therapies, such as chemotherapy or endocrine therapy, creates a powerful combinatorial effect.
Palbociclib is completely safe when taken one dose per day. A side effect of the drug is reversible neutropenia, which results in a catastrophically low number of neutrophils and white blood cells that fight dangerous infections. The medicine causes a reduction in the affected cells, but more often it stops their multiplication, says Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
