Palmistry is a complex of techniques that allows you to predict the fate of a person or describe his personality along the lines on the hand. There are many opinions about not only the correctness of these judgments, but in general, about the correctness of this approach. Many skeptical researchers consider palmistry to be another pseudoscience, similar to astrology.
We all remember stories and scary stories about fortune telling by the lines on the wrist. Basically, they have almost the same plot: an old fortune teller (necessarily a gypsy), looking at the hand of a noble knight, predicted his death from some circumstance, and so, in fact, it happened. Naturally, the gypsies were mainly engaged in fortune-telling by hand (in fact, they brought this type of fortune-telling to Europe) and charlatans, however, among them were truly mystical personalities who had a real gift.
One of them was Bill Warner, who took on the pseudonym Louis Hamon. It so happened that in childhood he was left without parents early, however, fate gave him the opportunity to study with the famous numerologist and astrologer Greg Doulson. After that, Bill went to India, where he studied with Sapti Nhal, a famous Indian palmist at the time. The Hindu shares his knowledge with his new student, but tells him that the gift that he has must be used with care, and, most importantly, one should not take large rewards for him, as this can lead to the loss of the gift.
After that, Warner travels around India for a long time, finds a small treasure and returns home, where he begins to practice palmistry under the name of Louis Hamon. At the beginning, he tries his hand at predicting the health status of his clients along the lines of the hand, later develops the gift so much that he can predict their future.
Popularity comes to him after the help of the British police in the investigation of a mysterious murder: according to the palm print at the crime scene, Hamon not only draws a psychological portrait of the murderer, but also indicates that the murderer is one of the victim's close relatives.
In the future, Hamon had no end to clients. He predicts the exact dates of the deaths of two potential heirs to the English throne, Queen Victoria herself and many other famous personalities. His predictions help many people avoid dangerous situations and succeed in life. At the same time, he sacredly observes the advice of the old Indian - he does not work too much and does not take large fees. The line to him was scheduled for years to come. With plenty of free time, Jamon writes notes about his predictions, in which he explains how and why he made them.
But, nothing can last forever. In the late 1920s, he moved to America, where he met Ford, who offered him a job. Hamon agrees, however, after a while, having quarreled with Ford and abandoning his business, he suddenly dies in an impoverished quarter of New York.
Many people explained such a tragic ending of the famous predictor by the fact that he violated Nhal's prohibition on large fees and lost his gift, someone explained this by the general insanity of the masses of people from the Great Depression that reigned at that time. However, most likely, the reason was much more banal: years of intense efforts undermined the body of the famous medium and he died from some kind of chronic illness.

The grain of rationalism is inherent in any manifestation of research activity. And, as chemistry came from alchemy at one time, palmistry gave rise to the science of the hand - chirology. She studies the patterns in the position of the lines on the hand and the pattern of papillary lines on the fingers and their correspondence to purely medical and physiological parameters, such as general health, predisposition to certain ailments, hormonal characteristics of the body, etc. Chirology is quite scientific and its activity has been confirmed by numerous experiments.
The story with Hamon received an unexpected continuation at the beginning of the XXI century. Scientists engaged in chirology were able to decipher many of the records of the famous palmist and came to quite interesting conclusions.
Previously, it was believed that the papillary lines on the fingers and palms are given to a person even in the mother's womb and remain unchanged throughout life. In addition, the skin on the palms of a person is the only place in his body capable of complete regeneration; scar tissue never forms on it. Any injuries, burns and cuts on the skin of the hands always heal, and, moreover, completely restore the pattern of papillary lines.
Recent research has shown that this is not entirely true. In a fairly large number of people, these drawings change over the course of life. These changes are insignificant, however, they reflect at least changes in the physiology of internal organs. Moreover, for some inexplicable circumstance, these changes occur precisely in those zones that, according to the ancient palmists, were responsible for those very organs! For example, the tubercle under the index finger is responsible for the work of the heart - it is there that changes in lines are recorded in case of heart diseases.
The chirologists who examined Hamon's notes were amazed at how accurately the English palmist knew the location of these areas and how he correctly interpreted them. But this can only explain the physiological aspects of the health of his clients, but not the predictions of their future. Where did he get this Knowledge? It is quite possible that we will never know much, just as we will never know where the ideas of fortune telling by hand came from. It is known that they originated and developed almost simultaneously in India and Ancient Egypt. And, in both cases, their carriers were representatives of the priests.
And more recently, scientists were waiting for another interesting discovery. It turns out that surgical interventions on the inner side of the hand have a direct impact on the functions of human internal organs. Of course, we are not talking about "reprogramming" our fate through plastic surgery on the lines of the palm, however, the very fact that it is possible to control the function of organs in any way other than the autonomic nervous system forces us to radically reconsider our view of many functions of the human body.
