In the summer of 2016, an Israeli astrophysicist, author of works on popularizing science and mathematics, Mario Livio, worked in the archives of the Winston Churchill Museum in the American city of Fulton. He spent more than one day at the museum, having managed to make friends with almost all the staff. One day, the director of the museum told Mario about the manuscript stored in the museum's storerooms. Allegedly an essay entitled "Are we alone in the universe?" Churchill wrote back in 1939 for the News of the World. But they refused to publish it - the publication seemed to the editor very "frivolous" (it said about aliens from other planets and flying saucers, which was pseudoscientific), and Winston abandoned it.
In the 80s, almost 20 years after Churchill's death, his wife, having started repairs at home, took the archive of her husband's unpublished works to the museum. Among them was this provocative article. But they did not dare to put it on public display - again because of the piquancy of the topic: the reflections of such a respectable and respected historical personality about the aliens could cast a shadow on his reputation. And research into the authenticity of that essay has never been conducted.
Having received a unique document in his hands, Mario Livio gave it to be checked for various examinations. As the results of the research came from the laboratories, he became more and more surprised. “The first thing I did was get an opinion on the age of the document,” Mario told reporters. - It turned out that both paper and ink are at least 70 years old. Then came confirmation by handwriting from forensic scientists, who, comparing my samples with the officially released Churchill documents, confirmed that they were written by the same person."
The scientist showed the results of the research to the director of the museum.

Another handwritten essay by Churchill was found in the archives of the museum. It, as follows from the signature, was written in the late 50s. The examination confirmed the authenticity of Churchill's second article. The director of the museum still did not know how best to deal with the sensational materials.
