Scientists believe she has previously provoked mass extinctions

The existence of the ninth planet, sometimes also referred to as "Planet X", is still considered to be proven only theoretically. The fact that on the outskirts of the solar system there may be a huge cosmic body whose orbit is hundreds of times larger than the Earth's, at the beginning of the year, said specialists from the California Institute of Technology Michael Brown and Konstantin Batygina. Further research showed that it, in all likelihood, revolves around the Sun with a period of 17,117 years. Some researchers do not exclude that a hypothetical planet was “born” as a result of the explosion of another star, and only then was it “stolen” by the Sun, falling into its orbit.

The assumption according to which the hypothetical ninth planet has previously become an indirect cause of mass extinctions on our planet was made by Daniel Whitmeier and his colleague John Mats at the end of last month. Experts said that the planet, passing through the Kopeir belt, directed many comets towards the Earth with its gravitational field, which rained down on the planet. According to scientists, this happened about once every 27 million years.

The Kopeir Belt is a section of the solar system beyond the orbit of Neptune, filled with many asteroids and comets. Also on its territory are several dwarf planets, including Pluto.

The fact that a new cometary bombardment, threatening life on Earth, may await the Earth in the foreseeable future, was recently written by The Sun newspaper with reference to Daniel Whitmeier.
