A group of British scientists have managed to find a new way to rejuvenate aging cells that contribute to the development of age-related diseases, according to Science Daily.

Researchers led by Lorna Harris, professor of the Department of Molecular Genetics at the University of Exeter, tested the effect of plant phenol resveratrol and its analogs on old human connective tissue cells - fibroblasts.

It is known that with aging, cells accumulate in human tissues, which, while remaining alive, cease to grow and perform their functions. Their accumulation makes tissues and organs more susceptible to disease.

Scientists have found that resveratrol (found in red wine, dark chocolate, red grapes and other fruits) stimulates the activity of splicing factors - the "maturation" of messenger RNA. After using resveratrol, senescent cells began to rejuvenate - their division cycle was restored and telomere length increased.

“This is the first step in trying to make people sick less in a normal life span. Our research shows that the use of chemical compounds can help restore the function of aging cells,”said Professor Harris.

According to scientists, this discovery will potentially allow a person to age more painlessly. According to the researchers, the therapy based on the use of plant phenols will help fight heart and cancer diseases, Parkinson's and Alzheimer's diseases.
