A new material that is very similar to leather was created by specialists from the University of Iowa from kombucha. So far, the material obtained, which is quite environmentally friendly, has several disadvantages.
Tests have shown that "tea skin" loses strength when exposed to moisture. In addition, the new material becomes very fragile in the cold.
I must say that shoes and clothes made from kombucha have a wonderful appearance, and also completely decompose after falling into the soil.
Young-A Lee, a professor at Iowa State University, grows a jelly-like film that includes some species of Acetobacter, Saccharomyces, and other yeasts.
After that, the film is completely dried and is suitable for sewing bags, clothes and shoes.
Now experts have to work on improving the new material, which in the future may well replace natural leather, which will certainly delight animal activists.
