The ancient ruins have seen the light again, thanks to a drought in Hebei province in northern China, where the Panjiakou reservoir is located.
A huge artificial reservoir was created in 1978 to provide water to the cities of Tianjin and Tangshan. Part of the Great Wall of China slid down the hills straight into the reservoir, “hiding” under water for a long time.
Local news media showed footage of the brickwork of the wall topped with nearly intact turrets. The architectural structure was built during the Ming Dynasty over 500 years ago. True, there is information that certain sections of the Chinese Wall were built long before that and are much more ancient, but … as in many other things, as for China, there is no confirmation of this yet - the Chinese are very secretive, preferring to keep a veil of secrecy!
This place became popular among divers, who even dubbed the flooded part of the wall "Chinese Atlantis". The legendary ruins, however, did not appear for long. When the drought ends in Hebei, the wall will hide under the waves again.

The construction of the wall continued during the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) to defend against the Mongol tribes.
