There are finds that become a real sensation. This is exactly what the artifacts found in one of the tombs of Mexico have become. Archaeologists emphasize that this was one of the few intact tombs, which are very rare to find. The artifacts found along with human skulls, so far, however, pose more questions to scientists than they give answers.
Archaeologists unearthed a 1,700-year-old intact grave in Mexico, in which they found the skulls and bones of twelve adult men, as well as figurines and figurines of the pre-Columbian era. Each of the figures was carefully sculpted from a certain pasty mass and then polished. And one of the figures was dressed in a complex headdress with horns, similar to those worn by shamans.

According to the archaeologists who made the discovery, the 1,700-year-old untouched tomb dates back to the Komala period (0 to 500 AD). It was discovered while renovating a Seventh-day Adventist Church in Colima, Mexico. Archaeologists have found a hole leading somewhere down under the church. The laz was lined with stones and human bones. Inside the tomb, astonished researchers found 12 skulls and other bones that seemed to be scattered randomly.

Some of the turtles showed signs of damage, according to Rosa Maria Flores Ramirez, an anthropologist at the National Institute of Anthropology and History in Mexico. During further excavations, archaeologists found three more levels of burials. On the second level, a team of scientists unearthed, next to two skulls, figurines of a man and a woman, placed face down.

The figure of a man holding an ax in one hand measures 39 cm in height and 15 cm in girth. On the head of the figurine is a complex headdress with a horn sticking out of it. The female figurine is shorter and more compact than the male one (32 x 14 centimeters). She has a pointed nose and a triangular head that wears a striped headdress. This figurine has crossed arms, and in her right hand she holds a pot.

Even more interesting, both figurines were sculpted from a paste that was polished after hardening. Rafael Platas Ruiz, an archaeologist at the National Institute of Anthropology and History, believes that these figurines reflect the worldview of the people who inhabited the Colima Valley at that time. Allegedly, the figures were supposed to protect a person after death in the afterlife.

The find is considered unique because these types of graves are almost always found looted, and archaeologists can only guess what was in them. The fact that the tomb was untouched for the first time made it possible to learn more about the way of life in Mexico thousands of years ago. Scientists now speculate that this may not be the only burial in the area, since the entire Colima valley was continuously inhabited for almost three thousand years (from 1500 BC to 1500 AD). Some of them are optimistic and confident that other cultural monuments from different periods will soon be found.
