When Andres Ruzo from Lima was a child, his grandfather told him an incredible story about a lost ancient golden city hidden in the Amazon jungle. A boiling river should point the way to this city.

Many years passed, and one day colleagues from the Peruvian government asked Dr. Ruzo to check the topographic maps that were being prepared for publication. On one of them, Andres saw the same boiling spring from a children's fairy tale.

Gathering a team, Ruzo went into the jungle to see the river with his own eyes. Oddly enough, in the hundreds of miles around this place, there was not the slightest volcanic activity - nothing that could heat the water to 93 degrees Celsius (and this temperature fluctuates depending on the time of day). A cloud of steam stood over the river, and the unfortunate animals that fell into the hot water immediately perished.

The explorer did not find the lost city. But he made a small film about what he saw.

Local people believe that the river is heated by the Great Yakumama Serpent, which gives birth to hot and cold springs. As for the scientists, none of them was able to answer the question of why this river boils.

According to Dr. Ruzo, this is one of the wonders of nature, because in order to boil even a small section of the river, it takes enormous geothermal energy. Perhaps the source that feeds it originates deep in the bowels of the earth, where the temperature is much higher than on the surface.
