Antarctica is one of the most severe conditions for survival. The continent is covered with glaciers, the thickness of which exceeds 3 km in places. Terrible frosts reign there all year round and strong winds blow. But, despite this, the sixth continent has attracted increased attention since its discovery, hiding many mysteries.

Ancient maps and New Swabia

Antarctica was officially discovered in 1820 by Bellingshausen and Lazarev. It was from this time that its active study and mapping began. However, there were ancient maps where this continent was already present, and it was depicted without ice. Most interestingly, a scan of the coastline showed that these ancient maps represent it very accurately. But this meant that Antarctica was once devoid of ice, and people knew about it and even lived there. The most famous map belongs to the Turkish admiral Piri Reis in 1513. He, in turn, copied it from an older map, about which nothing is plainly said in any source. The sixth continent is also present on other medieval maps, while on some it is completely free of ice, on others - with varying degrees of glaciation. This indicates, that earlier people already knew about Antarctica and even visited there.

In modern history, a great contribution to the study of the sixth continent was made, however strange it may sound, by the Nazis. Hitler was obsessed with the idea of a superman and was looking for the lost technologies of ancient civilizations. He sent many expeditions to Antarctica in order to find traces of highly developed civilizations and their military technologies. And later, in the 30s of the last century, a colony and base of New Swabia was founded there, which was located in Queen Maud Land. The history of this colony is lost in the darkness, but there is evidence of American sailors who have been there about squadrons of flying saucers emerging from under the water and hitting ships with beams like a laser. An American squadron of ships, arriving there in 1947, collided with these saucers and suffered serious damage. These events were kept secretand it is still unknown who actually attacked the sailors - the surviving Nazis, or the aliens.

Plasmosaur attacks

The sixth continent is fraught with other mysteries, sometimes very ominous. Soviet and American polar explorers in the study of Antarctica have repeatedly encountered inexplicable terrible phenomena, which resulted in casualties. Today in the media you can find chilling stories about the encounters at the South Pole of polar explorers with the monsters that live there, but there is still no single photo or other evidence of their existence other than the testimony of the surviving polar explorers.

At the end of the 50s of the last century, an expedition was sent from Mir station to the area of the South Magnetic Pole to take measurements. We got to the place without any problems, set up tents, and were going to start work in the morning. Outside it was not very cold - "only" 30 degrees with a minus, so there were no special problems. However, in the evening they were visited by an uninvited guest - a luminous ball that was moving not far from the camp. When all the members of the expedition went out into the street, the ball went towards them and began to stretch into a "sausage" at the end of which there was a dark hole, like a mouth. When the photographer A. Gorodetsky approached him, a terrible creature attacked him, striking him with a powerful electric discharge. The rest of the polar explorers began to shoot at the intruder and they managed to drive him away, but the photographer was already dead. The next day, unknown creatures again visited the researchers. This time people were already ready for the meeting and began to shoot at the balls as soon as they began to turn into "sausage". However, 2 people died again, so it was decided to turn off the expedition and return to the station. There was no evidence of encounters with these monsters, since all the cameras were melted after the attack, but the story of the polar explorers was not questioned. It is because of the high danger of encounters with Arctic monsters that Soviet polar explorers did not conduct subsequent expeditions to the South Pole. But after this incident, in 1962, an American expedition on 3 all-terrain vehicles visited there. They had already heard about the monsters and prepared to meet them, however, they did not manage to leave without consequences. During the expedition, American polar explorers lost 2 all-terrain vehicles out of 3, and after their return they were on the verge of shock. All of them were eventually admitted to the clinic for treatment, and the results of the trip were classified.

Later these creatures were given the name - plasmosaurs. It is believed to be a non-biological species of life based on plasma. These creatures live in the upper layers of the atmosphere and are normally invisible to the naked eye, but in the region of the poles they can descend to the surface of the earth and become visible for unknown reasons. Whether or not it really is - remains to be seen, however, research into this mysterious life form carries a huge risk, because there have already been victims in contact with them. Therefore, plasmosaurs are still only one of the scary stories.
