The Meredith Stone, also known as Lake Winnipesaukee Stone, is a mysterious artifact on display at the New Hampshire Historical Society. It looks like a large egg with mysterious images on its surface.
This stone was found in 1872 during earthworks in the town of Meredith, on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee (New Hampshire, USA). Curiously, the Meridite Stone is a cut piece of quartzite that is not found in New Hampshire, so it was made elsewhere.
The first owner of the stone was Seneca Ladd, an entrepreneur, under whose leadership the workers who found the stone worked. After his death, the artifact became the property of his daughter. In 1927, she donated the find to the Historical Society of New Hampshire, where it was named the "Meredith Mystery Stone." The height of the stone is about 10 cm, width - 6.4 cm. At the ends of the stone there are cylindrical holes, and on its surface are depicted a person's face, circles, a wigwam, a spiral, dots and an ear of corn - a mysterious cereal, which, according to legend, was presented to the Indians by the gods from heaven …
The time of creation of this stone and its purpose are still unknown.
