The famous ancient Egyptian Sphinx - a giant sculpture located next to the pyramids of Cheops, Khafre and Mikerin - one of the most mysterious structures on earth. Egyptologists claim that its function is to protect the eternal rest of the buried pharaohs. But is this only its purpose? And why then did the medieval Arabs call him "the father of horror"?

About the time of the construction of the Sphinx, a grandiose sculpture, which is more than 20 meters high and 57 meters long, nothing is known for sure.

But if the date of his birth is in doubt, then no one disputes the assertion that the Great Sphinx keeps great secrets.

An eyewitness to the Flood

According to ancient legends, the Sphinx is a living creature. When he doesn't like something in the behavior of people, he jumps off the pedestal, leaves at night in the Libyan desert and buries himself deep in the sand … Therefore, not everyone was given to see him. And this, in turn, gave rise to confusion with the date of manufacture of the mysterious monument.

For example, Herodotus, in his History, in which he wrote down “everything that he saw and heard in Egypt,” did not say a single word about the Sphinx.

Egyptian officials, meticulously recording all the costs associated with the construction of pyramids and religious buildings, also did not leave us a single document.

The answer to this phenomenon can be found in the writings of the ancient Roman scholar Pliny the Elder. In his "Natural History" there is a story about the Sphinx, which was once again cleared of the sands of the Western Desert. Studying the sculpture, scientists came to the conclusion that the Sphinx periodically hid under a layer of sand and from time to time it had to be dug out.

Based on these facts, they concluded that the Sphinx was erected much earlier than previously thought. There are various hypotheses about the construction time of the statue.

Significant traces of erosion were found by a team of hydrologists, indicating traces of a flood that once occurred in the area. After numerous analyzes and consultations with geophysicists, the estimated date of the event was named - 8000 years BC, and repeated studies by the British pushed this date back to 12,000 years BC. In addition, it turned out that traces of erosion fall on the worked part of the rock on which the Sphinx is installed, which means that it stood there even before the flood. French archaeologists claim that the dating of the flood that occurred in Egypt coincides with the date of the death of Atlantis according to Plato …

Other scientists are trying to calculate the time of the creation of the Sphinx from the Bible, believing that the erosion could have been caused by the Flood. This hypothesis is indirectly confirmed by the Arab legend, which says that the pyramids were built to save the Egyptians from the Great Flood. And the Sphinx was erected in order to warn people of an impending disaster. Therefore, the Sphinx's gaze is wary, and its third eye is directed into space.

So, the mystery of the origin of the Sphinx goes back to time immemorial, about which we know little. It can be assumed that in the depths of centuries a highly developed civilization existed on our Earth, and its representatives, possessing a developed science, could foresee the coming catastrophe and try to preserve their knowledge for future generations. According to these legends, the gods flew to the Nile Valley on a fireball. The king of these gods was called Thoth. These deities, who were nine, began to teach the aborigines the basics of mathematics, medicine, astronomy, agriculture.

They passed on their knowledge to the Egyptian priests, who were able to quickly master astronomy and could accurately calculate when the sun would eclipse.

But over time, the knowledge brought by the aliens began to be forgotten. The technologies for the production of unique nickel and bronze alloys, which the ancients knew how to produce, were lost. Forgotten and the miraculous recipe for the "elixir of immortality", which was known to the god Thoth and his son Hermes Trismegistus. Probably, the missionary gods foresaw that people would not be able to preserve the skills and knowledge presented to them. And if so, then it was necessary to take care that at least part of this knowledge was preserved. It is possible that the Sphinx was erected as a secret repository of knowledge.

What does the secret room keep?

Some ancient Egyptian wall inscriptions and papyri contain intriguing references to hidden chambers - the Archives Chamber, the Hall of Records, which were regarded as an allusion to some kind of underground room under the Sphinx or near it.

Even 200 years ago, scientists and just adventurers in pursuit of the gold of the pharaohs were looking for secret voids in the Guard of Eternity. They drilled holes in the body of the Sphinx, but their attempts were in vain.

In 1978, American drilling specialists arrived in Giza. They had official permission to drill deep wells under the monument.

The rig was installed in the Sphinx temple right in front of the latter's paws. The first well showed nothing. The second, scientists examined with a special camera, but saw only "holes, like in Swiss cheese", formed by dissolving limestone naturally. The work was immediately stopped.

And what a miracle! In 1989, with the help of special equipment, a group of Japanese scientists discovered a narrow tunnel under the left paw of the Sphinx, leading towards the Khafre pyramid. It started at a depth of two meters and sloped downward. In addition, they found a "tunnel" outside and south of the pyramid, which goes under the monument.

In the same 1989, the American geophysicist Thomas Dobetzky also made a seismic survey of the Sphinx. And it also led to the discovery of a large rectangular chamber under the front paws of the Sphinx - 10 meters long and 9 meters wide. This room has a rectangular shape, therefore, the version that this is a karst void formed naturally as a result of soil erosion is excluded.

But work on the study of the underground room was suddenly stopped by a representative from the Egyptian Antiquities Organization. Moreover, the Egyptian government no longer allowed new geological or seismic surveys to be carried out around the Sphinx. And this despite the fact that the research came close to solving the age of the Sphinx, in which the local authorities were previously interested.

One can only guess what is in this room, for the Egyptians stubbornly refuse to allow any excavations near the Sphinx. Their reluctance only fuels the curiosity of scientists. Some suggest that the mysterious hall contains evidence of an ancient civilization on Earth.

But if this civilization was able to create the figure of the Sphinx, one can only imagine what level of knowledge it possessed. And who knows if, among other pieces of evidence, the solution to the Sphinx lies in this room.

Emptiness under the plateau

More recently, it has been established that under the pyramids are hidden huge, completely unexplored underground structures.

Scientists suggest that underground there is a huge, previously unknown complex of buildings, palaces and temples. The archaeologists who made this discovery claim they have never seen such a wonderfully planned city. It contains many temples, pastel-colored peasant huts, craft workshops, stables and other buildings, including a palace. Along with other modern conveniences, the city has a perfect drainage system, including a hydraulic underground water supply.

The city exists within a vast, ramified system of caves beneath the Giza plateau, which diverges eastward near Cairo. Its main entrance begins inside the Sphinx statue with stone-cut steps that lead to a lower cave under the stone bed of the Nile.

No characteristic footprints are visible on the surface - they are hidden by the sands. But they seem to be visible from space using a special program for analyzing images from orbit.

But the most interesting thing is that the Egyptian authorities today persistently deny the existence of underground cities under the Giza plateau. And the discovered voids are simply explained: these are underground dried up river beds or mines, from where material was taken for the construction of the pyramids and the Sphinx.

But maybe this fear arose because the authorities themselves are afraid to admit the unknown? Maybe underground structures - bunkers in case of a universal catastrophe such as an atomic war or the Flood. However, a group of local and foreign archaeologists began work on mapping the underground passages.
