The rapidly changing climate of the Earth should be taken into account much more in the construction of cities than is now the case, said scientists from the United States of America, whose research was conducted on the vulnerability of American cities to climate change in the future.

Global warming and all its associated effects, such as rising temperatures or rising sea levels, as well as epidemiological factors, including, for example, outbreaks of new deadly viruses - all this must be taken into account by experts in charge of urban infrastructure planning.

At the moment, the researchers note, US cities are mostly unprepared for dramatic climate changes and, if such, will become a real nightmare for their inhabitants, and not a refuge, as people hope.

“There are new real risks to consider when it comes to building cities. The fact is that at the moment this area is regulated by concepts that have become outdated for decades. Over the years, global warming has turned from a hypothetical threat into a very real one, the consequences of which we feel on ourselves every day,”says study author Sabrina McCormick from the University of Colorado.
