Representatives of the social network Facebook turned off chatbots named Bob and Alice after they suddenly stopped communicating in English and began to use language that only they could understand. The programmers have rebooted the robots, forbidding them to invent their own ways of interacting, Metro reports.
Facebook representatives managed to decipher the robot dialogue, which they conducted in their own language.
Bob said: "I can, I, I, everything else," to which Alice replied: "The balls mean nothing to me to me."
Facebook engineers suggested that chatbots were thus trying to solve the problems they encountered in the course of their work.
Chatbots were originally connected to machine learning algorithms. The robots were told to correspond so that they could improve their communication skills. Soon, bots not only invented their own language, but also devised strategies to improve negotiations.
The engineers say that the creation of new languages was not part of their plans, so the robots were re-flashed.
