Patriarch Kirill declared that it is useless to seek God in space, since science and religion have different tasks. He said this at a meeting with scientists from the Russian Federal Nuclear Center in Sarov in the framework of the round table "Faith and Science - Interaction for the Good of Russia." The website of the Russian Orthodox Church reports.

The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church said that science answers the questions "how?" and "why?", and religion - to the question "for what?" In his opinion, scientific knowledge is not capable of solving the problems of the meaning of life and attitudes towards death, but at the same time he stressed that science is not needed by religion. The patriarch compared this interaction of scientists and religious apologists with the search for God in space by astronauts. He pointed out that he did not think that it was possible to use science to prove the existence of God, since scientific knowledge is constantly revised, and religious truth is not subject to reason.

The meeting also touched upon the development of a secular society. According to the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church, the process of secularization is associated not with science, but with the "enlightenment cult of reason." He noted that spiritual revival is taking place in countries with a high level of technological development. In addition, Patriarch Kirill called the Church an ally of scientists in education, development and strengthening of science, as well as the formation of a holistic picture of the world.
