Every person who lived in the USSR was daily faced with the results of the special creativity of this artist, but few know his name. He is the author of almost all banknotes of that period. Ivan Ivanovich Dubasov's work was very interesting and prestigious, but at the same time quite difficult, because the approval of each sketch was carried out by a commission that took into account every detail.
One of the controversial issues arose when evaluating the image for a three-ruble bill. According to one of the members of the commission, the soldier on the banknote was not dressed according to protocol, namely, his belt was painted over a gas mask bag. Such a violation could cost the artist his freedom. Specialists from the People's Commissariat of Defense came to the rescue, who also studied the soldier's uniform and gave a written conclusion that there were no violations in the uniform of a soldier on the banknote. But the People's Commissariat of Finance recommended placing a young woman on a five-ruble note.
Dubasov took into account the recommendations of the USSR Commissariat and prepared a sketch on which he depicted a woman with two children. However, the commission did not like this option. In their opinion, the image conveyed by the artist resembled a single mother who goes to beat out alimony. As a result, it was decided to have a parachutist on the banknote.
Dubasov's brush was also the author of the drawings on the banknotes of 1947 and 1961.
Before the monetary reform of 1961, or rather two years before it, in 1959, Ivan Ivanovich was urgently recalled from vacation. He was instructed to immediately start preparing sketches for the new money. Everything that happened was kept in strict confidence. Throughout the entire work, representatives of certain structures were constantly on duty under the windows of Dubasov's house.
Dubasov's artistic activity was not limited to the creation of sketches only for the banknotes of the USSR, in addition, he also worked on options for other social services. countries, state. awards and postage stamps. The honorary award, the Gold Star medal, awarded to the heroes of the Soviet Union, was also made according to a sketch by the artist Dubasov. In addition, he was part of the team that participated in the development of the USSR coat of arms.

Ivan Dubasov lived to be 90 years old and passed away on March 15, 1988. His final "brainchild" was a sketch of the coat of arms for the artist's hometown, Odintsovo. They buried him at the Akulovsky cemetery. It is curious that Dubasov was a participant in the project to develop the Order of Lenin, which was awarded to the artist himself in 1945.
