The Norwood Searchlight Incident of 1949, as it was named, is an outstanding series of 10 visual observations of a strange aerial object that took place in the Norwood, Ohio area from August 19, 1949 to March 10, 1950.
The alleged sighting of the massive object by searchlight operator Donald R. Berger, detailed in his logs, remains one of the most curious events in UFO history.
This case is exceptional, not only because of the dramatic event reported, but also because of the caliber of the witnesses involved. This series of incidents was allegedly witnessed by civilians, clerics, academics, police and military officials.
The photographs were taken on 23 October 1949 by Norwood Police Sergeant Leo Davidson and 2 25-foot drums. The films were kept by the Reverend Gregory Miller and were last seen on WCPO Channel 9 in 1952.
The still lifes from the motion picture were given to Investigator Leonard Stringfield and published in his book SAUCER POST 3-0 BLUE. - This photograph from his book has been scanned and enhanced for this report. Using the same photograph, an earlier analysis was done by Dr. Richard Haynes.
Local officials argued that the pictures and the film were not UFOs, but searchlights, which were used to consecrate dark streets, as well as when scientists were observing people living in this city.
