An old type of aircraft, used during the Second World War, was seen several times in the area of Derbyshire.

The so-called ghost plane has been reported across the county for years. Witnesses have often described the aircraft as the Douglas C-47 Dakota, a military transport aircraft widely used by the Allies during World War II.

More recently, Sandra Holland reported that for some time she watched a large, unmarked, silent plane flying directly towards her towards a shopping center, which later mysteriously disappeared into thin air.

“I've never seen anything like it,” she said. “Looks like his motors weren't working and he was going to crash into us. Then he started to go sideways, and then he just disappeared - it was very strange."

Another witness, Pam Orridge, also saw something strange a few years ago.

“My son and I were driving on the A6 from Darley Dale to Rovesley,” she said. “We just passed Church Road. Suddenly a plane appeared in front of us, flying towards us at a very low altitude. So low that we thought it would crash into us, but then it tilted sideways and disappeared. We were unable to identify the plane because it happened so quickly and we were shocked by what happened, however we noticed that it was an old type."

Interestingly, over 50 plane crashes have been reported in the nearby Peak District known as the 'Dark Peak' and some of them remain unexplained to this day.

Due to such events, the region became so infamous that it even received the name - the British Bermuda Triangle.
