Much of her incredible and tragic story is well known for her famous diaries. Yet over the past 70 years, no one has been able to figure out who told the police that Frank and her companions were hiding in a room behind a bookcase.

Artificial intelligence help

The retired FBI agent and a team of 20 investigators hope to use the help of artificial intelligence (AI) and get the data they need to solve this mystery.

“This is an extremely interesting experiment,” said Vincent Pancoak, the former FBI investigator who led the project. - We're going to download the pieces of data that we were able to find during this time period. There is a lot of information that has never been viewed before."

The team also works with the media to "remain independent and impartial." The experts say they will present their official findings on August 4, 2019.

How artificial intelligence works

“Artificial Intelligence creates a system for storing and retrieving information that allows researchers to record any information they find in historical archives. Our software allows you to search for data and visualize it in new ways,”said Marius Helf, Chief Scientist at Xomnia, in an official statement.

This system made it possible to find answers to many questions. In the future, it is planned to make it more intelligent, in the sense that it will be able to automatically connect people, events and places. Thus, important and new clues can be found to understand what really happened in the weeks leading up to the arrest of the Anne Frank family. Ultimately, it will be possible to identify the traitor with high confidence.
