In many European legends and folklore, you can find small and evil creatures, which were usually called demons or devils, and if the creature is very small, then an imp.
In English, these creatures are called imps, which goes back to the name of a young tree shoot, but most often demons or devils were told in Germanic legends.
There are many different descriptions of these creatures, but they all have similar features: very small stature, ugly or rude facial features, mischievous and hooligan behavior. Most often they were portrayed as evil and associated with the helpers of the Devils, demons and companions of witches.
You might think that these meetings with demons and devils took place in past centuries, when people were illiterate and religious. But no, they are seen to this day.
One of these stories was published on the paranormal site "TrueGhostTales". An eyewitness named Joshua said that when he was 12 years old, his family moved to a new home in Benicha, California. And from the very beginning the boy felt something very bad in this house.
Soon the boy's mother began to notice that someone was dropping and moving things, and unusual sounds were heard in the house. And then little sister Joshua reported with fear that she had seen tiny red eyes at night that looked at her from behind the closet. The sister was very scared and Joshua believed her, although he himself could not see the eye, although they slept in the same room on a bunk bed.
“But then it happened. That night I woke up from an incomprehensible noise and when I looked down, I saw a small black figure that was jumping near our bed. And every time this little devil jumped up, he looked at me with his red eyes.
Everything else on his face could not be seen, it was buried in blackness, but at the same time on his head he had a hat (!), Similar to Charlie Chaplin's bowler hat. I screamed out of fear and soon my mother entered the room. But she didn’t see anything, a second before her arrival this imp rushed to run somewhere in the corner of the room and disappeared.

For several days everything was calm, and then I woke up again in the middle of the night. Remembering the previous incident, I began to look around and again saw this creature, which, as a small black man, this time calmly stood next to our bed.
When it looked up and our gazes met, I screamed again in fear and again my mother came. And again he managed to escape and hide in the shadow of a corner. And I noticed how he froze for half a second in front of the wall, before completely disappearing."
According to Joshua, he saw this creature several times at night, until he finally got up the courage to tell his mother about everything. And she did not laugh at him and did not call it fiction. Many years later, my mother told Joshua that she also saw this creature, and that she kept silent then so as not to frighten the children.
Joshua's family lived in this house for another year and all this time various strange things were happening in the house. Then they finally decided to move.
Another story was published on the site "Your Ghost Stories" and there an eyewitness met with a very angry imp.
“Once I saw a small black figure leaning out from behind the TV. His eyes were completely white and very small, but his mouth was wide, red and grinning viciously.
This creature rushed towards me and frightened me very much. At the same time, it was daytime, sunlight was pouring from the window and I was not alone in the house, my boyfriend was in the other room. But it quickly approached me on the carpet and out of fear I rushed to run to my boyfriend.
In the days that followed, I tried to kick him out of the house. I burned the sage and covered the room with smoke (a remedy for evil spirits), and this helped for a while, but the creature did not disappear. Sometimes it looked angrily around the corner, sometimes it looked at my sleeping boyfriend, or sat on the stairs. Then I started yelling at him to clean up and it ended up going somewhere through the bathroom wall. We think that it went to another apartment …"
Another imp was seen by a resident of Bangor (Ireland) when she walked Missy's dog in a local park in Crawfordsburn Country. It was a good day and the woman and her dog reached the waterfall before something frightening happened:
“Missy saw something ahead and ran there, and I began to catch up with her. And when I overtook her, I saw that she was growling at someone and that something was as tall as a child and at first I thought it was a child.
But then I saw unusual clothes, a deformed face with sharp brown teeth in the mouth, a large bulging nose and large deep-set eyes. When I grabbed Missy by the collar and pulled her towards me, this devil or dwarf began to giggle vilely. I froze with fear on the spot, but it ran into the bushes near the waterfall and disappeared."
Another eyewitness wrote his story on the Exemplore website. According to him, he constantly sees small demonic creatures around him:
“I see their faces even in the clouds, and also in the bushes, in the grass, almost everywhere I don't look. Up to a certain point, these creatures subjugated my whole life. I have taken thousands of photographs of them and filmed them. They were either like tiny gnomes or half-animal figures or bizarre demons that you don't even see in every horror movie.
My wife and son also saw some of them, but this does not come close to the scale that I had. And I am not schizophrenic and also do not suffer from other mental illnesses.
We have tried many remedies to get rid of them. I once prayed for hours to understand why I see these things. And God made me understand that this is because of my own sins in life. I declared my humility and remorse and said that I would rather die than behave again.
And God saved me. I started to cough violently and during it evil energy came out of my body. After that, I felt incredibly worn out, but forgiven and free. I can still see these things, but now it doesn't affect my life that much. I used to believe that it was my curse, but now I believe it is a gift."
