From October 1 to October 31, 2016, according to the seismographic station of the University of Utah, 110 earthquakes occurred on the territory of the Yellowstone supervolcano.
The strongest had a magnitude of 2.5 on the Richter scale. It happened on October 20 at 4:49 pm local time, 9 km north-west of Yellowstone Lake.
On October 23, a series of 18 earthquakes was recorded in Yellowstone. The strongest of them, reached a magnitude of 2.2 points and it happened at a distance of 5 km northwest of Yellowstone Lake.
The deformation of the surface near the Norris Geyser Basin, the beginning of which was recorded in January 2016, continues at the same rate, which is about 5 cm per year. During this period, the surface rose by 4 cm and shifted to the southeast by 2.5 cm.
In general, seismic activity and surface deformation of the Yellowstone caldera remain within historical norms.
