Selfies aren't worth the life of an animal. It goes without saying, but some people just seem to be reluctant to pay attention to it. For example, vacationers on beaches around the world cannot resist touching sea creatures when they are at their most vulnerable.

What happened

This time, a dolphin cub died at the hands of selfie lovers. He found himself in shallow water on one of the beaches in Spain, and as soon as people noticed this, the animal was immediately surrounded by a crowd. Everyone, it seemed, urgently needed to take a selfie with the dolphin, or at least touch it.

The Spanish authorities warned the non-profit organization Equinac about the difficult situation in which the animal fell, which is engaged in rescuing sea creatures stuck in shallow water. They had to do this after the rescuer, who was trying to help the animal, was surrounded by a crowd, and he had no way to protect the little dolphin.

“Many people do not have a single drop of sympathy for a living being, who was left alone, without a mother, who was scared and hungry,” says a message posted by Equinac representatives on their Facebook page. "In their selfishness, all they want is to photograph and touch the animal, even if it is suffering from stress."

Who is to blame for the death of an animal

According to the International Business Times, the baby dolphin has been in the hands of hundreds of people. The photographs taken by the campers show that many children unintentionally closed the dolphin's breathing hole when holding it in their arms. Unfortunately, the young animal was unable to survive this test.

Needless to say, this is not the first case of human cruelty towards marine life? In February of last year, another dolphin died on the beach when tourists began passing it from hand to hand.

Of course, vacationers are not responsible for the fact that the baby dolphin got into shallow water and could not get out on its own. Perhaps he would have died without waiting for help. But if you, while relaxing on the beach, suddenly see a helpless sea creature, contact your local authorities or a rescue organization. By doing so, you will give the animal at least some chance of survival.
