Video: The Man Who Wanted to Disappear: The Mysterious Final Days of Peter Bergmann 2024, May
Anonim

On June 16, 2009, the corpse of a 55-65 year old man was found in the Irish village of Rosses Point. During the previous 5 days, this individual had been in the city of Sligo, staying at a local hotel. He used the pseudonym Peter Bergmann, but his real name has not yet been established. The law enforcement officers got the impression that this person appeared here literally out of nowhere.

Time traveller?

He did not have any documents with him, any labels and barcodes were removed from his personal belongings. The man could not be identified by fingerprints either. Photos of the body were circulated on the news for a long time, but no one was found who could identify the deceased. Bergmann had almost no contact with those around him, and rare eyewitnesses to his stay at the hotel were able to tell the police only that the mysterious stranger spoke with a significant German accent.

The investigation into the death continued for months, but the police were unable to make any progress in the case. Initially, this mysterious incident was not known outside of Ireland, but in recent years it has become very interesting for Internet users. Enthusiasts put forward many versions of what happened, up to the fact that Bergmann was a time traveler or a native of a parallel world, whose personality in our reality is simply impossible to reveal. In 2014, the documentary "The Last Days of Peter Bergmann" was even released, which discusses various theories about the origin and death of men, including the fantastic and the supernatural.

Rather mysterious suicide

Bergmann paid in cash everywhere, which is a rarity in Europe today. He bought several parcel stamps at the nearest post office, but the law enforcement officers could not determine whether the man used them or not. Surveillance cameras noticed that while having lunch in a cafe, this man took out some papers from his pocket, read them, tore them up and threw them into the trash can. Unfortunately, they managed to take away the trash, and fragments of the mysterious notes were irretrievably lost.

Bergmann was caught on CCTV cameras several times, but the police, upon a detailed study of the recordings, suddenly realized that the man methodically used "blind spots", that is, he often moved around those parts of the city where there were no recording devices. Each time he left the hotel carrying a full purple bag, he came back empty-handed. Perhaps he somehow got rid of the contents of the package and hid it in his pocket. It is known that before his death, the man talked to the taxi driver and found out if there is a quiet and deserted beach nearby where you can swim alone.

On June 16 at 6:45 am Bergmann's nude body was found on the same beach. His clothes were scattered along the shore. The forensic experts determined that the death of the man was due to drowning, but it was not violent. Despite the fact that the unknown looked good for his age, his state of health before his death, as it turned out, was deplorable. He suffered from advanced prostate cancer and bone tumors, lacked one kidney and suffered multiple heart attacks. No drugs, narcotic or medical, were found in his body.

Perhaps this elderly, sick man decided to part with his life, attracting as little attention to himself as possible. Nevertheless, many unresolved issues remain. Why did he systematically destroy the traces of his existence? Why did no one identify this person? Even if he did not have a family, he must have had neighbors, colleagues, or acquaintances. Information about the deceased was transferred to Interpol, which in turn disseminated it in Germany, Austria and other German-speaking countries, but this did not bring any results …
