Scientists of the Russian Federation announced their intention to create special ballistic missiles that will shoot down the asteroid "Apophis". This type of weapon will be developed by 2036.
Experts are confident that their missiles will be able to destroy any object with a diameter of no more than 50 meters. Weapon tests will take place in 2036 on Apophis, which will approach the Earth at close range. Scientists noted that existing rockets are not capable of destroying meteorites, since all equipment operates on liquid fuel.
During the flight, the rocket must be periodically refueled, and its trajectory is unstable. An example for specialists was the asteroid that fell in Chelyabinsk. It became known about his approach in a few hours, but then there was no necessary equipment to destroy it. Scientists of the Russian Federation are confident that on the basis of already known technologies in the future it will be possible to create more powerful weapons for the destruction of space objects.
