A pair of rotating concentric circles were seen in the sky of Bryansk supposedly over the Moscow microdistrict last night, January 25. "Unidentified flying object" was even photographed. The evidence of the "contact" was posted on the Internet.

The opinions of the discussants were divided, but mostly Bryansk residents are inclined to believe that the circles in the sky are some kind of atmospheric phenomenon or a reflection from floodlights or store lighting. The meteorological version was immediately refuted by the head of the Bryansk hydrometeorological center Tamara Dubrovina.

And then the publication "Our Bryansk. Ru" asked for comments to the main specialists in the sky in our city - the Bryansk planetarium. Here is what Lyubov Khlebushcheva, a methodologist for lecture work, answered:

“Judging by the photographs of the celestial phenomenon, an optical phenomenon was observed - a halo. It usually appears around the sun or moon. There are many types of halos, but they are mainly caused by ice crystals in cirrus clouds at an altitude of 5-10 km in the upper troposphere. The type of halo observed depends on the shape and arrangement of the crystals. Light reflected and refracted by ice crystals often decomposes into a spectrum, which makes the halo look like a rainbow, but the halo has a low color in low light conditions, which is associated with the peculiarities of twilight vision. Yesterday, January 24, 2013, light snow was falling over Bryansk. And perhaps the snowflakes refracted the light, which could have come from street lights, shop lights. A similar phenomenon was observed in December last year in Turkey over Ankara."
