The Kelly Case (Hopkinsville, USA) - An incident where a family of Sutton farmers, along with their guests, were frightened by unknown creatures. Occurred in the village of Kelly, near Hopkinsville, Kentucky, on the night of August 21-22, 1955. There is still no explanation for what the Suttons were able to observe.

On August 21, at about 7 pm, Bill Ray Taylor, leaving the house to the well, noticed a silvery round object in the sky, emitting a multi-colored light. Taylor claimed that the object flew over the house and began to descend about 100 meters from it in the bed of a dry river.

Billy Ray Taylor, 21, was a joker and joker, and he also worked in a traveling amusement fair. No, not a clown, and not an animator - like a handyman. "Take more - drag on."

But, for the subsequent investigation of what happened, this was the reason to treat him as the initiator of the rally. After all, if you say that a person works in a circus, what is the first thing that comes to mind? Clown? He is a magician, a clown, or at worst, an acrobat in a short T-shirt. "The circus left - the clowns stayed." Working in such establishments does not contribute much to the reputation of a serious person. Even if he serves as an accountant in the booth. A frivolous person - he probably makes a fool of the people, showing bearded women and two-headed dwarfs, or even a swindler.

Therefore, when Billy Ray ran into the house with his face twisted from excitement, his eyes wide open and began waving his arms like a windmill, his appearance was so comical that he was greeted with a friendly laugh. And when he started shouting that this was the only thing, he had just seen how a flying saucer dropped straight from the sky into the ravine behind the house, grabbed their stomachs from laughter and fell from the chairs.

The company was in a good mood. The whole family got together for the first time in months and enjoyed an August evening after Sunday dinner, deliciously prepared as always by the twice-dressed Glennie Lankford, who owned the farm. “Miss Glenny was bad about alcohol and smoking, as well as some bad things. And if you fell for a lie, you had to prepare for her anger, and it won't seem a little. “She was a very religious woman. But despite the strict rules, Miss Glenny had a kind and generous soul,”recalled Stith's granddaughter, who was also present that evening.

In a word, it was an ordinary, decent and conservative American family, typical of that era that had already passed forever. It was August 21, 1955.

They played cards, told anecdotes. Towards nightfall, it got hot and stifling, as it happens in Kentucky, and Billy was sent for cold water to the well, since the beer was already out.

Promotional video:

Billy Ray was the workmate of his older friend Elmer "Lucky" Sutton, who invited him to visit. Also in the house that night was Elmer's younger brother, who headed the farm, his wife Alain, and other siblings: 12-year-old Lonnie, 10-year-old Charlton and Mary, seven years old. Baker, the older brother of Alain Sutton, a frequent visitor to this house, was also present.

There were 11 people in the house.

Billy Ray's flustered story did not convince anyone, not even his wife. He persisted, claiming that even the dog huddled under the porch with its tail tucked in fear between its legs. But his friend Lucky did not appreciate the "scary tales", and neither he nor Miss Glenny would allow Billy to talk about it again. Nobody took him seriously. Well, what nonsense … Joked, laughed and will be.

Billy Ray must have received a little satisfaction when the dog, half an hour later, burst into wild barking under the porch, but this satisfaction hardly lasted long.

Lucky went out to see what the dog was barking at, and Billy Ray, seeing a chance for rehab, rushed out the door with him. Billy led Lucky to the well, waving his arms to show where the flaming object crossed the sky and landed behind the house, but nothing out of the ordinary was visible. Where's the plate? No proof. And the dog became quiet, however, without leaving its shelter. Billy Ray calmed down a bit and the men turned towards the house.

And then … The creature that approached them from the ravine would have looked appropriate at the Lucky and Billy Ray fair in the haunted house. Here, coming out of the forest at dusk, it did not seem - it was a nightmare.

As they got closer, they could make out what appeared to be a "little" man - although not quite a man. The monster was about a meter tall, with an almost perfectly round huge head, and arms that almost reached the ground. The long arms had claws on their fingers. The eyes were much larger than human eyes and glowed with a yellowish light. Long, thin mouth, big bat-like ears. The creature appeared to be made of gray, silvery metal that emitted light in the dark like a phosphorescent watch dial.

(Later, these creatures will be called “green men.” But it was not possible to find out who exactly launched this incorrect definition. Nevertheless, this derisive term stuck.)

The creature raised its arms up as if someone had told it that it was about to be robbed and slowly approached the house, moving towards the back door.

If his raised hands were still a gesture of peaceful intention, he was going to surrender, or, on the contrary, as the athletes had it was a typical gesture of a victorious one, then its meaning still did not reach the men, who quickly retreated into the house and were met with another round of ridicule. But Lucky and Billy Ray, very sensibly, did not waste time trying to convince the women that what they had just seen - they took up combat positions.

To the family's surprise, Lucky grabbed a shotgun and closed the back door while Billy Ray armed himself with a pistol and closed the front door. From the point of view of Russian realities, this is a different reality from the realm of fantastic cinematography of the Wild West alien to us. For the rest of humanity, family protection is a normal topic.

The house was small - three rooms and a central corridor with a few narrow windows. This could have given a sense of security on the defensive, but since it was a hot night, all the windows and doors were thrown open and only light shutters-screens separated the family from what was outside. Worse, there were no locks on the doors. What a blessed time it was!

Despite the fact that Lucky and Billy Ray unexpectedly armed and guarded the entrances, the rest of the family continued their daily activities. There were dishes left there that needed to be washed, and the children had to be put to bed. "We thought the boys just kept on joking."

There was a third door in the house, in the kitchen, just a meter away from where the women washed the dishes. She remained unguarded. In addition, there was a window above the sink overlooking the backyard and ravine. Alain Sutton, not alone in the kitchen, left the wash to be curious outside the door. A few minutes later, Miss Glenny realized that something was wrong when Alain returned to the house, "scared, white, shaking nervously, saying that she saw a monster."

Glennie ordered the lights to be turned off and sat down next to Billy Ray, near the front door. She asked Billy Ray what it was that he, Lucky and Alain saw … and Billy, tired of the bullying, told her rudely "you will see for yourself." She waited 20 minutes before something approached the front door.

“Billy Ray and I remained seated until it came right up to the screen,” Glenny said. “It looked like a five-gallon gas tank with a head on top and small feet. Shimmering metal, the color of my refrigerator."

In surprise, she fell to the floor with a cry. Billy Ray shot the monster. And he swore he hit before he disappeared from sight.

Lucky and Billy Ray waited a few minutes, then entered the living room where the women were. Another creature appeared in a side window, and Baker, who was also armed with a shotgun, fired at him. I got it.

Billy Ray saw where he jumped when he was hit - the creature jumped onto the roof of the house. When he jumped out onto the porch to fire another shot, "a long arm came down from the roof above the door and grabbed his hair."

Billy Ray froze as long, thin fingers grabbed his hair and then continued to drag him up. Alain, still shaking from what she saw in the backyard, squeezed through the door and grabbed Billy's arm, pulling him inside. The next moment, Lucky pushed past them with his shotgun. He raised the barrel and fired at the target. But the creature just rolled off the roof, fell to the ground and rushed into the undergrowth.

The men drove everyone away from the door and analyzed the situation. Three of them are armed, there seems to be a chance, but what should be their next move? They decided to go outside for reconnaissance, still not wanting to believe that all three of their shots had gone by.

They found one monster in a tree … and another on the ground right in front of Lucky Sutton. He fired … and stood in amazement when he rolled over and stood up."

Another shot at the creature in the tree had the same amazing effect. The monster just clicked like a game target in the fairgrounds. And descended to the ground before escaping into the forest. As in other cases, the hit sounded like a shot hitting a metal bucket.

Then came the unnerving realization that their weapon was useless. When they realized this, they retreated into the house, waiting for the next move of the monsters. They didn't have to wait long. Objects continued to approach the window and peer inside. They were shot through the window … they rolled over, fell back and disappeared for a few minutes. However, they kept coming back … time after time.

It became apparent to Miss Glenny that the creatures didn't like the light from the front and back porch lights. Although this limited the creatures' approach to the sides of the house and made it easier to defend the estate, the monsters did not retreat.

Eventually, the Suttons heard an ominous grinding sound on the kitchen roof and rushed to the backyard to see the creature pushing through the roof. He was knocked off the roof and in an incomprehensible way he “floated away” onto the back fence, at a distance of about 15 meters. They fired again, knocked him off the fence, and this time he ran on all fours into the weeds.

The exhausted family fought off the glowing gray creatures for almost four hours, their nerves were exhausted, and the children cried.

I had to do something …

The situation became incomprehensible, and as soon as it calmed down in the yard, Lucky decided to make another move. They needed help, there was no phone, and they couldn't think of anything better how to get away. Load everyone into trucks and go to Hopkinsville to try to get help from the police.

Two trucks, one after the other, taxied into the parking lot of the Hopkinsville Police Station at almost 12 am, and then 11 people, adults and children, tumbled out of the cars and occupied the entire visitor area, which was an unprecedented case for those places. The duty officer realized that something unusual had happened, and when he finally understood the meaning of this story, he reported to the state police and called his boss, Sheriff Russell Greenwell at home.

"The spacecraft has landed at Kelly," was his message.

Greenwell, who had personally seen an unidentified object in the sky several years ago, immediately mobilized. It was assumed that the monsters were still present at the farm, so Greenwell took the story very seriously, requesting reinforcements from the state. “These are not the people who always run to the police for help,” he described Suttonov. "When they are threatened, they can defend themselves, they have weapons."

A total of sixteen cops rushed to the farm. Within half an hour, Sutton's farm was overrun with police. The Suttons were waiting for the search result in their trucks … "Everyone was terrified." A shrill scream from the yard made their hearts flinch, but it was only a cat. Someone stepped on his tail in the dark …

Meanwhile, rumors spread of a "Martian invasion" at Sutton Farm. Local journalists and just curious ones showed up. Although no one saw more than two creatures at the same time, the story quickly turned into an invasion of 12 to 15 monsters, and everyone wanted to see the aliens. Lucky soon regretted his decision to go to the police.

After a two-hour inspection of the house and the surrounding area, the only pieces of evidence the police could find were shell casings, gunfire marks and a glowing spot in the grass behind the fence …

The glowing trail was about 18 inches long and was located in the place where the monster supposedly received a shot. But, no one thought about taking soil or foliage samples. The next day the stain disappeared.

There was no indication that the Suttons were imagining all of this or attempting a hoax, nor was there any obvious evidence that any creatures were attacking the house. However, the cops experienced persistent negative feelings of danger and anxiety. This was separately noted by Greenwell … “Everyone felt it. They told me so. With that, the perplexed chief of police sent everyone home to bed, and the Suttons reluctantly returned to the house.

Sleep did not go. Mrs. Lankford closed her eyes, trying to sleep in her bed next to the window. The lights were off, but she realized that something was shining in the window. She looked and saw that she was being watched.

Unable to believe the creatures had returned, Miss Glennie woke the others up. Lucky jumped to the window with a pistol, but his mother stopped him.

"My grandmother asked to leave them alone, because it seems they do not want to harm us," Stith later said. “She believed that there is something good in everything. She didn't want anyone to be hurt or killed. Be it even a creature from another world!"

“But dad was against it,” she continued. “They go to doors and windows, what do they want? Do they want to come in? And what will they do when they come in? "He wasn't going to give them that chance."

In the end, Lucky won the argument. He shot straight in the face by the window and the thing disappeared.

They left at sunrise. The family, of course, did not sleep all night … and in the early morning hours, curious and sightseers climbed into the farm.

Although the sheriff never doubted the Suttons' stories of what happened, he did them a disservice by failing to designate the farm as a crime scene. Evidence of the events that night might have been trampled, stolen, or destroyed by a curious reporter or tourist. Worse, a downpour the next day turned the ground to mud. If there were any traces, they must have been washed away by the rain.

Bud Leadwit, a local radio station engineer (and amateur artist), after hearing talk of an invasion of Sutton's farm, grabbed some painting supplies and drove straight to the scene. When he arrived at the farm, he was able to convince three women - Miss Glenny, Vera Sutton and Alain Sutton to help him draw images of the creature.

In the beginning, each woman drew separately, as best she could. Leadwith then made a collective drawing of the goblin, which they unanimously approved.

Naturally, the first reaction to these events was distrust.

The initial public opinion was that the whole story was a hoax.

If this were the case, then this is one of the biggest and most useless hoaxes in the history of ufology. The family did not benefit from this incident and avoided advertising. On the contrary, it suffered losses, both in monetary terms and in moral terms.

During the shooting at the monsters, Billy Ray and Lucky turned the house into a colander - a significant amount was required for overhaul. The fields have been trampled for several years in a row.

The inhabitants of southwestern Kentucky are people who, even now, in our time, are largely religious, and even conformist. Having written such a story there, you need to be prepared for the risk of forever being branded as a madman or a liar, with consequences such as contempt and bullying. It is not too surprising that Sutton and Billy Ray Taylor and their families moved to another state after the incident.

11 people, including children, witnessed those events. All of them, when interrogated separately, told the same story. Also, drawings of creatures were made separately, which even differed little in details. A year after the events, the case was again carefully checked by the investigator from New York Isabel Davis, there are reports and documents - no evidence of a hoax was put forward. The story is genuine. Definitely.

Surely something incredibly “alien” took place that night. Perhaps it really is related to beings from another world, aliens, or even from another dimension. We do not know.

By the way:

On August 21, 2017, the "Great American Eclipse" will occur in the United States - a solar eclipse in which the moon completely blocks the sun for a few minutes. This is the first such phenomenon in 99 years that can be observed in the country.

Image
Image

The eclipse will partially take place across the country, but the small town of Hopkinsville in Kentucky is more fortunate than the rest: it is located near the point where the total eclipse will last longer than elsewhere. Because of this, the city, long before August, became the epicenter of a historical event and is preparing to receive several tens of thousands of observers, believers and experienced eclipse hunters.
