A strange incident that happened in the forests of the Novgorod region became the basis for a local horror story about a forest that steals souls. She was popular in the early 2000s, but was soon forgotten. But in vain.

In the summer of 1999, the corpse of a man was found in the forest, whose identity could not be established, however, as well as the cause of death. There were no injuries on the body, so there was no corpus delicti and no criminal case was initiated. Medical examination found no signs of poisoning, drowning, and the internal organs were in excellent condition. One got the impression that the soul was simply taken out of the person.

As it turned out, this case was not the only one. In June 1966, the body of a local resident, M. Konovalov, was discovered in the Novgorod forests. According to a medical report, hypothermia was the cause of his death. Then no one was embarrassed by the fact that hypothermia occurred in the summer and without the participation of water. But the strangeness doesn't end there either.

According to archival records, in 1933, a certain Semyon disappeared in the same area, who went to the forest for mushrooms. But neither the living nor the dead managed to find him. It is not known whether mysterious events happened before 1933, but even with the naked eye you can see that the interval between accidents is exactly 33 years. Coincidence, as well as the fact that adversity overtakes only men?

The very number "33" also has some mysterious connotation. This is the age at which, according to the Bible, Jesus Christ was crucified and many superstitious people do not even celebrate their 33rd birthday. Only time will tell whether the mystical cycle of Novgorod forests will repeat itself in 2032.
