Crown shyness is a natural phenomenon observed in some tree species, when the crowns of fully developed trees do not touch, forming a canopy with gaps.
Other names are "canopy openness", "canopy shyness", or "intercrown space". It is observed in trees of the same species, however, cases have been recorded between trees of different species.

Scientists drew attention to the phenomenon at the beginning of the last century. They even identified the trees on which it manifests itself. Avicenia, didimopanax, clusia, prickly frame, amber, eucalyptus were added to camphor and shore. But it was not possible to understand the nature and mechanism of this strange natural phenomenon. Scientists are only convinced that the phenomenon really exists.
