Scientists have discovered strange drawings in the margins of a medieval manuscript from a Neapolitan monastery, which depicts horses (or cows), a man and a devil. Thanks to psychologists, historians were able to prove that children drew strange drawings.

While examining the drawings for another project, Deborah Thorpe of York University accidentally stumbled upon these images. It is noted that in the margins of manuscripts from the Middle Ages, drawings of objects, animals and, oddly enough, devouring monks are often found. Scientists believe that these drawings were made on manuscripts from the boredom of readers of those times. But Deborah was surprised to find that the drawings were done by a child.

In order to verify this theory, Thorpe went to professional psychologists for help, who, after conducting their own research, came to the unequivocal conclusion that the drawings belong to children aged 4-6 years. Psychologists, based on the main features (long legs, elongated shapes, a large head and the absence of a torso), declare that the drawings on manuscripts differ little from the drawings of children of our time.

According to Deborah, this discovery shows that children of that time were cheerful, let their imaginations run wild and expressed themselves, like children of our time.
