64-year-old British fisherman Ron Hopper, suffering from liver cancer, a few days before his death, allowed two of his fishing friends to make bait from their ashes and go with it to Thailand. On this groundbait, friends of the Briton caught a record-breaking carp, according to the Mirror.

According to one of the friends of the late Paul Fairbrasse, in December 2015, doctors diagnosed Ron with liver cancer. The elderly man was in the hospital with only a few weeks to live. During one of the visits of a dying pensioner, Paul offered Ron a crazy idea - to make bait out of his ashes.

“Ronnie grunted and said it was a great idea. Not long before he was diagnosed with a fatal diagnosis, he and Cliff Dale and I were going to celebrate our retirement in Thailand. Hopper told us to break away for three and agreed to let himself feed the fish,”said Fairbrass.

A few days after this conversation, Ron Hopper was gone. After the cremation of the body, some of the ashes were taken by his wife, and some by friends. They brought the ashes in a special container to Thailand, where they made bait in the form of balls on its basis. Friends decided to name what they got, "Purple Ronnie."

“At first we caught a few small fish with this bait, but we knew we were capable of more. As a result, it began to bite, and we caught the largest Siamese carp that lived in that reservoir. It weighed almost 80 kilograms,”said Paul Fairbrass, adding that he and Cliff pulled the giant fish out for three hours.

“I do not believe in God, but I clearly felt that Ronnie was with us at that moment. This was our triumph. When the carp was in our boat, I looked up at the sky and said: “Thank you, Ronnie,” said Cliff Dale.
