Research into the 18th century Hungarian mummy has finally debunked the myth that cancer is a result of modern technological progress. Scientists from Hungary and Israel were able to detect signs of rectal cancer in the mummy's intestines, and cancer mutations were found in its DNA. This is described in foreign scientific publications.
Thanks to the research results, scientists have come to the conclusion that people were at risk of getting cancer even in the days when there was no talk of a pronounced technological progress. The mummy was found in the Hungarian city of Vats. This happened in 1995, when archaeologists found the burial catacombs, which contained the remains of about 300 people. Thanks to the discovery, the scientific world was able to better study the life of people who lived in Eastern Europe in the 18th and 19th centuries.
Scientists noted that for many years the theory of the relationship between technological progress and cancer has been widespread and popular. According to this theory, humanity faced cancer in the second half of the 20th century, but the latest research on the Hungarian mummy has dispelled this myth.
