In Nikolaev, the Admiral's ghost is most often found on Admiralskaya Street, in the area of Cathedral Square.

The ghost is described in the article by Anatoly Skulsky.

“Twice I was lucky enough to see in person, the very 'object' of the legend. This happened for the first time in the early 50s. Like many of the Nikolaev boys of those years, I was fond of sailing, in the summer I went as a cabin boy on a yacht,”he writes.

That time, "The Seagull" returned to the yacht club rather late, around 1 am. It was calm, so not only we were late, but also four or five yachts of various classes, including the beautiful mahogany Koreja. Rowing with oars, pushing off with poles, we approached the “barrels”. In the silence of the night, all the creaks and conversations were clearly audible. Suddenly excited voices were heard: "Look, look, - Admiral!"

Everyone turned their eyes to the balcony lit by a dim light bulb, where the head of the yacht club, Uncle Petya, was standing. Next to him stood a ghostly human figure that swayed slightly, dimly glowing. The yachts stood on "barrels", a yacht-club "tuzik" (a small boat) approached them, adult yachtsmen went to the shore on it, boys, jumped into the warm water and swam. While we were sailing, a light ghost figure stood on the balcony.

The head of the yacht club had already gone down, the adults lit a cigarette and discussed the event animatedly, and it turned out that Uncle Petya himself had not seen any ghost next to him. When the guys and I reached the shore, the vision from the balcony had already disappeared.

“The second meeting with the“Admiral”took place in the early 80s and was more intense. That evening I stayed up late on the Ingul with fishing rods and returned home along the Ingulsky descent near the old wall of the shipyard. Suddenly, from the opposite wall, where once there were stone steps that led to the park to the memorial of the soldiers-liberators, a ghostly figure of a man of about fifty emerged. He was dressed in a costume from the time of Catherine II: a wig, a triangular hat, boots with buckles, no sword, a stick in his hand, buttons glittered on his uniform, but there were no orders. The masonry of the wall was visible through it. The visibility was very clear. A ghost walked by with a light gait, and a wave of air swept over me.

At first I was dumbfounded, my legs became heavy and seemed to be glued to the pavement, but when the ghost passed me, I remembered that I can do something with energy and decided to stop him. The "Admiral" turned around, shook his head accusingly and calmly began to move away, and I immediately lost the desire to influence him. It didn't become scary at all, the desire to communicate with him simply disappeared. I still have the feeling that the ghost was controlling me telepathically and knew in advance what I wanted to do. Then the "Admiral" passed in the direction of the bomb shelter, which was previously a cable storage, and disappeared into the wall under the Flotsky Boulevard, "the author recalls.

Who could it be in life? Perhaps this is the shadow of Catherine's grandee, who was one of the founders of our city and eventually turned out to be undeservedly forgotten. Or, perhaps, on the contrary, it is the shadow of one of those famous naval commanders, whose busts stand on the street of the same name near the former headquarters of the Black Sea Fleet, and now - a museum.
