Imaginary death is a terrible phenomenon that can lead to premature burial and terrible agony, which is why every reliable case of this incident began to be noted and made public. These sad stories unwittingly force people to be more attentive to such cases, and especially to pregnant women who are responsible not only for their own lives, but also for the life of the baby. There are thousands of examples of the miraculous return from the other world of women in a situation, these incidents are reflected in the works of foreign authors and scientists. But the story presented in this article took place in the Russian Empire in 1819.
If you go from Serpukhov to Moscow, by the longest road, then sooner or later, on the way you can come across a small village with the unpretentious name of Lopastnya. An ordinary peasant Fyodor Petrov lived in this village, he was married to Akulina Ivanovna, and they waited from day to day for replenishment in their small family. It was autumn in the yard, it was harvest time. And as a rule, all young and old villagers went to work in the fields. But Akulina, because of her position, remained at home with her little niece Mavra. Akulina felt somewhat unhealthy, but, as usual for the village women, she was on her feet and engaged in household chores. At this time, she felt the approach of childbirth. Experiencing severe pain, Akulina could hardly restrain her moans, thereby greatly frightening little Mavra, who, out of fear and her powerlessness in panic, ran away to call for help. For a very long time, the unfortunate Akulina suffered from terrible pains and vain attempts; then she fell into exhaustion and fell into oblivion. This calm was, however, short-lived. Suddenly, as if shocked by a sudden strength, she jumped up from the platform with a fury and ran out into the yard. At this time, she returned with the help of Mavra, and at once they rushed after her, but her aunt began to run back and forth around the yard with extreme speed. From such a terrifying sight, everyone fell into a daze and stood rooted to the spot. the frightened girl did not dare to approach her for a long time; finally, approaching, she noticed with horror that her aunt, with a blue face and rolling eyes under her forehead, was already without feeling and without breath. Soon, Akulina's relatives, her husband and all the household returned from the field. With difficulty, they took her away from the post and carried her to the hut. No one doubted the authenticity of death. The dead woman was washed, put on clean linen and laid on the table, and on the third day she was buried. The burial took place in the usual manner.
Two days have passed since the funeral. The weather was wonderful, not typical for autumn, warm weather. At the cemetery where Akulina was buried, which was located near the church, the children of the priest played. And suddenly, for no apparent reason, the children heard strange quiet moans. Having gone to the source of the groans, the guys approached a fresh grave, from which these terrible sounds were just heard. The children immediately ran to tell their father, who, in turn, convinced of the authenticity of the children’s words, called several men, with whom they dug Akulina’s grave.
And what? Surprise and horror struck everyone. In the coffin, in a terrible disorder, lay a suffocated Akulina, and in the back of the coffin was a baby, alive. The child was immediately taken out, as they could have done everything that is done with a newborn child, and immediately, making sure of the actual death of Akulina. With peace they nailed her coffin and poured a new grave.
